Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Will the new Macy’s PTO hours that just appeared for 2018 be paid upon separation due to 2018 layoffs, if they aren’t used?

@RrAKjKe-7rtb, no you will not be paid out The It’s Your Time days. The policy clearly states you must be actively employed during the fiscal year in which they are granted and you won’t be if your were cut before the new fiscal year started yesterday. Working six day weeks isn’t in the policy either. I saw a post on the discussion boards where someone posted links to the policy and you don’t get It’s Your Time days because of working those days, policy says nothing about having to work the 6 Day weeks to get the time.

I would like to know if “It’s Your Time Days” earned over the 2017 holidays will be paid.

As an executive; you are told you will earn one day a week as you work six day work weeks from Thanksgiving on. Can they legally not pay you for those days?

Those days probably auto approved. It happens. And managers probably didn’t get an email if they are not mapped correctly to their areas. Once termed, they won’t be paid for those days.

The two referenced with 2018 PTO approved include dates before and after termination date. Don’t understand why it was approved at all, but looking for it to disappear when someone catches up to it! (Or as more than one poster indicated, PTO payment to not be made.)

I just looked at the PTO screen.....poster is right about the 2018 pto, except CA and Montana earn at a rate of 1/52 a week instead of 1/12 a month. So if you are laid off in one of those two states, you’ll get 1/52 of your days if you work any time in Feb before being let go.......let’s do the math......haha. If you have 10 days divide by 52 and that’s 0.19 of an hour each week, will be working no later than Feb 24 if you are in Lancôme, which would be 3 weeks..... 0.19x3 =0.57. So a little over one half hour of time!

I repeat....they might have PTO scheduled for after, their term dates but it will be cancelled and/or won’t be paid. It is NOT 2017 PTO if it is scheduled in 2018 unless you are in California which I believe is the only rollover state. What days do they have scheduled PTO and what is their term date? ASTS needs to go in and cancel the PTO as termed associate but regardless they won’t be paid 2018 eligible days.

Actually, what generated my question was seeing that two being let go had PTO approved and It has to be this year’s PTO because I know their basic stats and know what they took last year. That confused me. Because replies 7 and 8 make complete sense to me. Tried to reach store AST today to ask the question I asked here (because HR cleaned out their office 2 weeks ago). Curious if the two are aware they may be paying that back but I’ll worry about me.

You don’t even earn that first 1/12th until you work through Feb 28 and no one being eliminated will work that full month anyway. Those of you being let go won’t be able to schedule any of it any way they will not approve it and you would have to pay back if you snuck anything through. But if you’ve been with the company long enough to have 5 weeks, then you already knew you take and earn PTO in the same year, it’s not last years earned time!

@RrAKjKe-nfa, the amount of WEEKS or DAYS of PTO you are eligible for each year is based on your Service Date. The amount of HOURS PER DAY you are paid for PTO is based on your average from the previous year, or your standard hours for the position if you haven't established an average yet. The amount of WEEKS or DAYS you are eligible for only increases with time. Regardless, the PTO for 2018 is not yours yet. it's only eligible to take in 2018 AS you are earning it. If you are not employed during the fiscal year of 2018 (term date 2/3, 2/15. or 2/24, these are the days based on whether you are in a regular selling, Cosmetics except Lancôme, or support job are all 2-3; FJC 2-15, or Lancôme 2-24). You can take it upfront (like if you are eligible to take 10 days in 2018 you can take all 10 days in Feb before you earn the 10 days 1/12 a month during the rest of the year) but if you leave the company prior to earning what you took, they may take back the overpayment on your last check.

and @RrAKjKe-rgy, EARNED but UNUSED PTO is paid out at the time of separation. Doesn't require a 2 week notice, but if you are eligible for 10 days and have earned 5 (for 5 full month's work in that fiscal year) and taken 4 already, you only get the remaining 1 day of what you haven't used yet.

NO..READ THE POLICY ON PTO. What you scheduled in Feb 2018 or later was your 2018 ELIGIBLE days. If you are in California check about rollover, but otherwise your eligible days HAVE NOT BEEN EARNED YET and as such ARE NOT yours yet. You have to work in fiscal 2018 to be eligible and it's calculated at 1/12 per full completed month. Moving from FT to PT or vice versa does not affect your eligible days, but TERMINATING from the COMPANY does. You are welcome to call HR Services but they will tell you the same thing. Unless you are in California you have to take your 2017 PTO prior to the end of the 2017 fiscal year (Feb 3 2018) or else you FORFEIT it. Go to INSITE and MTO and READ the disclaimer printed on the View Balance screen....... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and regarding your post, "I mean when you start you don’t immediately have vacation time a month in, and isn’t the amount of weeks and hours you have based on the last year" - that is incorrect. It's based on your SERVICE date and you have to have 6 months service before you can access your eligible days.

Call HR Services to confirm your eligibility for pay out of 2017 PTO.

I thought it was based on the year prior? I mean when you start you don’t immediately have vacation time a month in, and isn’t the amount of weeks and hours you have based on the last year I mean I have 5 weeks if I move to part time later in the year doesn’t that just affect my pro for 2019

No. Read the policy on Pto, Thats your 2018 vacation, it’s not been earned yet. That’s only your eligible hours and you earn part of it every month during the 2018 year....like everything else, it’s gone too when you are termed.

I’d like to know if PTO is paid off for those who quit via two weeks notice.
