Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What's with all the firings?

Two people were fired in my department last week, out of the blue. I didn't know them all that well, but from what I heard from other people, both of them were among the better employees. Which is why this makes no sense whatsoever, as poor performance was cited.

Anybody knows what's going on here? It's enough I have to fear layoffs all the time, now I have to worry about firings as well?

Getting rid of 50+ year olds sends a message to all employees : you will eventually get chopped because you will get older. Intel does not value people over 40.

I left a successful career at Intel on my own by finding another place to work where i trusted the leadership. They didn’t use the company for its own political grandstanding by making corporate announcements from the Oval Office for their own personal gain. Happy i was always gone by the time it happened.

Ps more layoffs coming. You’ve been warned.

The leaders in this company are unethical with their rating system.

@3ohe. FLM choose whoever they don't like and give them SSL4. Looks FLM have absolute discretion to what they want to do. Job performance may not matter at all, only brown nosers stay on their jobs. The system is broken.

SOP. SLM and above will decide who needs to go without justification. FLM will edit Focal with phony information to give the chosen ones their SSL4. The whole system is a sham as is the meritocracy. We all know mgmt fixes it for s--- ups to succeed and others to be expendable.

When 'BE' rating was still around (that is, when Focal wasn't completely corrupted yet and your rating meant something), one BE alone would not put you on CAP or much less get you fired. You would get 0% raise and little to no stock (SSL4 or SSL5). Repeat BEs could get you into IR or CAP. Under BK's corrupted Focal 'rules' a single "Successful" rating with SSL4 or SSL5 can get you fired on the spot. That is, you are completely at the mercy of your manager's whims without any kind of protection whatsoever. If your manager doesn't fully like you or couldn't resist the pressure from his/her manager, you're gone. That is the reason why s----ups and bloviators abound at Intel these days. Honest hard work doesn't get you much beyond S+SSL3, you have to make sure to brown nose your manager pretty hard to get those EE+ ratings. This is the result of moron BK's undermining of meritocracy and replacing it with rampant cronyism and nepotism.

Which group - Was it NSG ?

Terminated, lying b*tches leaving on Feb 2 will tell you a lie even as they are walking out the Intel door for the last time that their reason for leaving is - can't handle Intel stress so have quit.

No one is stupid to quit (without another job) in Feb and leave their INTC stocks on the table a month before they vest.

@giz Because people who happily left Intel have no reason to hang around here.

And what gave you the impression that I am an FLM? The fact that I know that specific ratings have been eliminated? Pretty much every Intel employee should know that.

Anyone who had Feb 2 as last day got kicked out. In some cases they got a nice package or allowed to retire. In other cases they just got canned.

@rxq, out of curiousity are you a FLM ? essentially stuck with nowhere to go. and why would you assume QOJ got kicked out, maybe he/she was smart enough to find an employer that better suited his / her longer term professional goals.

@qoj Out of curiosity, when did you get kicked out from Intel?

Because you are talking about a rating that hasn‘t existed for at least three years.

BE = Below Expectation.

People who are fired for ‘be’ rating are given a package or are put on cap. Didn’t hear about anyone being fired in a traditional way ..

@wcz What do you mean? The only part of the Focals that takes long is the time between entering the Focal results into the tool and the release of the pay letters by HR. But from management perspective, the Focal is done when the tool closes, because there is practically never a difference between what the manager decides and what HR releases (you could ask why it takes so long then, but that is another question).

If the manager decides to give someone a bad rating in their Focal, then that has already happened. HR does not dispute this. Ever. So any rating-related firings can happen basically immediately.

And OP, people get fired every year at Focal time. That is not a new thing. If it hasn‘t hit your department in a more obvious way yet, then you were basically just lucky. Intel forces managers to set up 2-5% (depending on HR guidance) of their employees for getting fired every year.
