"We were told the margins are high."

@2pnd Sure Q has invested in Cloudflare. I hope they didn’t make up numbers to appease Q.

@1bje i pity your lack of knowledge. Q has high investment in cloudflare. So its only natural that they would write high about Q's product.

How can you judge the success of a business unit based on its first product?

Qcom invested for years, then shut down the group after delivering its first chip. What a bad vision if executives do that.

I thought QCOM had a compelling product. This comparison is against a $10,000 intel part against $2500 QCOM. Things should have gotten much much better with next generation of the chip.

Face it. You can't compete with Intel in server chip space, not even AMD.

Is there a deadline by which the division needs to be sold, else will get canned?

The margins in servers are high as long as you have enough dough to make a good competing product. Making servers and competing with the market leader isn't some cake walk. Many have tried and are still trying. The amount of resources required is simply not easy to sustain unless the company has other avenues to ring the cash registers to pay for these resources and still make investors happy.

Still arm servers are being used in small scale at lot of places only because of the price factor and in some cases academic purposes. But yeah negligible profit here. Unless anyone can enter the cloud data centers with huge POs then only they can survive.

This was the plan from the beginning. QC entered a space to learn how difficult the work is. Margins are thin, road map is narrow sell it.
