Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Why need build, integration , tests teams in US sites ?

In name of build, integration , testing many saving their a##. They don't have any technical contribution but have big teams.

Better to close such teams and move all work to low cost center.

Save good technical people who can really save QCOM.

Remember you will get what you pay for , low cost centre will indirectly cost more since QIPl is full of corrupt management.

Outsourcing is not a simple math.

Some of you are beyond ignorant or trolling on testing. Sure some is factory test, other is engineering tests and are utterly critical to keeping customers from blowing their stacks and stock falling.

To put it in right way, you don't need to hire engineers to do build, integration task. Just hire someone getting min.wage from Taco Bell, Subway and show them 10 steps procedure for this job role and they will keep repeating it for 8 hrs every day.

Sounds like the job description of every lead in every company.

To be a test lead and to survive you need sense of humor not technical strength.

What a sad state? I left Q few months ago as I saw no potential to grow.

Test leads making 250K+ passing instructions like kings and status collection and holding a whip? what is the value addition other than coordinating and organising meetings? These leads are protected by their peers and management. Its sad .

LOL, OP is probably one of many hacks writing bad code and is tired of San Diego test team finding all the bugs he creates, so he wants test moved entirely to QIPL so no one sees his bugs until the customer does, since India test is so bad at finding bugs despite a huge effort over the past 5 years to get them at a basic level of competence.

This is because testing is not respected at Qualcomm. Our costumes are OEMs and ODMs who live to find our bugs for us. And we have a large CE team. But it should not be like this. At Microsoft, for instance, testing is as important as development.

Only an idiot think as the OP does. Unfortunately there are too many idiots in Q who think like him. That's why we are in such a mess. BDC has no debug capabilities. Bugs carried over from project to project.

Agree with the incompetent test leads in target who have no vision , pretend to be learning technology. How can a leader lead with no drive other than sending meeting invites and generic emails acting like a boss ?

@cuc exactly. Testing is in a lot of ways just as, or more important than development. An improper working shipped product is BAD BAD BAD

You may get 3 in India for 1 in sd, but those 3 still wouldn't be able to [correctly] do half the work of the guy in sd you just got rid of. So really what's the better deal here?

Test engineer is paid 48 dollars per hour in SD , you can get 3 engineer in India to do same work.

Ask them to work in shifts for 24 hour support, they will happily do.

Think of savings which can be achieved...
