Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Mad rush to finish tool reset

After the entire department has been torn up, deadlines not met, bows there is mad rush to finish and Father’s Day shoppers are not impressed

This reset should have been started back in February or March

What a disaster

@2pwv There are companies that specialize in supplying replacement parts for outdated retail equipment, I'm sure batteries (and/or more chargers) could be found if the management cared enough.

Our over night consists of 2-3 people because they still have to have coverage the following day

This is the second overnight attempt

If and when the reset is completed they are doing a strip and wax of the floor

The amount of rust and muck that has been under the original reset for at least the 12 years I’ve been there is not going to come off

As one poster said, the waxing people just smear all the muck around and make a bigger mess

What a waste of payroll to do this massive reset and it’s not going to help sales at all

The way the tool department looks at the peak of the season is a complete shame and is not setting well with customers!!

Kudos to MPU that have to find web orders in this chaos

Maybe it’s just an attemp to get the actual floor in original condition before closing the stores

Total failure the way the tool department has been torn up without any organization or completion of any area..

@3wrl, why bother with floor waxing anyways? It's worn out vinyl tile from the 1970s. It's seen better days and nothing can be done to bring it back.

Besides, the company that comes in to do the waxing doesn't even sweep or anything so dirt and debris gets waxed into the floor, so it makes it look worse. Every time they come to wax, they have to come back again to strip the floor and re-wax because the didn't do it right the first time.

@TD6Wrw4-2iqo You are obviously well staffed at your store if you are doing an over night. We don't have enough people to staff the store during the daytime let alone an over night. They had to skip the over night floor waxing in our store because there was no one to be there because of lack of staff.

Plus another over night 6/18!

Guess that will be the push to get it done before 4th if July

@1mcp - At least you get Sharpies. We don't even have that. When it was to do handwritten signs, the people doing the ad set had to wander the entire store looking for sharpies. Finally they started bringing their own in.

The excuse on printer batteries is that they are "no longer available". Best thing to do is take a charger and plug the printer in somewhere central to where you are working, that is if there are extra chargers. We only have two.

The SNCs don't scan either. Every Sunday, it's a big competiton in the hub office amongst the morning crew on who gets the SNCs that do scan.

@2sin - Fulltimers are not getting their hours cut because they are guaranteed a minimum 30, 35 or 40 hours, depending on what was established for the position. Lots of FT positions are FT30 and are rarely FT40 unless someone is a zone supervisor. If someone is FT30 and they are being scheduled a consistent 40+ hours a week, there's a problem.

Not only more responsibilities but less hours to complete said responsibilities PLUS no increase in pay

Guess this is where the bean counters have “discovered” savings not related to store closures

But I want to know why full time people are not getting their hours cut like the part time people are! They still get their 40 hours while part timers are lucky to see 10 hours

Why aren’t the full timers being cut to their minimum of 30 hours?

Seems like part timers are the only ones sacrificing

What happened to their hours being reduced as was stated back in that Feb 11th meeting announcing all these changes?? Probably because most are the ones making the schedules themselves

@TD6Wrw4-ieki Good post. Store support leads and associates are leaving in droves. Just look at the openings under Sears open positions. The number 1 need is for store support. Our district recruiter can't hire anyone. She says the word is out on Sears. Here in central and northern California they have actually tried sign on bonuses to recruit store support applicants and it still isn't working. If people do apply they don't last long once they see how much is being forced on them for such low pay. The potential bonus is not worth the stress and the overwhelming working environment.

Store manager has squandered so much payroll to accomplish nothing yet management can’t even buy a couple if new batteries for the darn printers to be able to print the bin labels

They can spend spend spend for sharpie magic markers for the hand written ad signs but geeze buy some batteries for the printers!!!

I will give up a day of work if you’ll buy a frickin battery already

So annoying!!

Our reset has only been worked by one guy thats it. No one else is helping other than the sales associates in tools putting the stuff up. What pisses me off the most is the SGM makes the most and he wont do nothing, but complain. Its just so annoying seeing him tell everyone has to help out, but he never helps out. He doesnt pitch in helping in the whole reset.

Also our store looks dead with inventory I don't even know why we wasted all this pay roll on a useless reset.

@1shq Problem is they need pegs/shelves and labels tediously rearranged according to particular diagrams, even if there's hardly anything to put on some of the pegs/shelves.

@1pvf @1qvh Ever since the backroom switched to store support, the original backroom people in many stores--including my own--have quit because they were given all of these extra responsibilities without being given a pay raise. There was a post about store support getting a pay raise shortly after it became official, that turned out to be false. Their situation with getting adequate hours didn't get better either, so there was no incentive to stay on after the changeover unless someone really needed the job. Gradually, they all went off to get similar jobs paying $13-15 an hour.

So now you have everybody else doing their jobs, including unloading trucks and handling pickups, because it's so difficult to get replacements. Gee, I wonder why?

I think an OSHA violation is around the corner. No one was given any training about dealing with heavy items as far as unloading the trucks or loading customer items in vehicles are concerned, and no one is wearing steel-toed boots, only back support braces.

Is there even enough merchandise to fill a shelf? A reset should take no time at all given poor inventory levels..

We had an associate get fed up with the whole reset mess and lack of coverage and hours this past Sunday in hardware. He worked his whole shift then filled out his resignation paperwork, made Sunday his last day, and slipped it under the HR door. They have absolutely no one to replace him.

No one to do the resets in our store. The person who knows how to do it and who started it got fed up and quit last week. Now we have people who just started who are trying to figure it out. We lost 4 people last week and two the week before, just stopped showing up.

@1rdo that’s rediculous what you have to go through!!

Shame on your SGM for not sharing the pain while she collects the big paycheck!

Kudos to you for working so hard!

By the sounds of it, you’re probably one of the last people there that knows how the reset works

We have shopping carts full of stuff just sitting there making it very hard for MPU to do their job let alone for the customer to find anything while just down the street I hear Lowe’s has craftsman section beautifully displayed

I’ve never seen a reset so poorly executed

Now I wonder if it will be done by 4th if July since that’s the next big holiday and we’ve missed Memorial Day and Father’s Day

Our store manager hasn’t been helping either

They asked me to do the reset knowing I have major back and shoulder issues. I told them that I will only do signs and labels and nothing else (no shelves, heavy lifting, moving things around), and so that's all I'm doing. The problem is that there aren't enough people because people are quitting and nobody is applying to take the empty positions. There are only two store support/backroom employees. We used to have six and it's been that way for months.

There are only two associates in HI where there used to be four or five. We did have three but the young man just stopped showing up shortly after they hit the floor. That's usually how it goes with the new hires around here. If a new hire miraculously came along and made it past the training period, they would be of little use since they wouldn't know how resets work.

So, yes, appliances (myself) and softlines are having to pitch in and do this reset. It's not the first time I've had to fill in another area. I've had to cover softlines for an entire shift on multiple occasions, same thing with tools. Whenever someone has to take a lunch or a break, whenever there is a call-out or whenever there is simply nobody scheduled because the only employees left in that department are at their max hours, I always come to their rescue. I've been given the MOD clipboard and told to retrieve the credit and SYWR metrics from everybody in the store and visually inspect the condition of each department. I've been also given a SNC and told to find online orders or finish the adset in tools or softlines. If it weren't for my back/shoulder issues, I would have been told to cover MPU or unload trucks. It's ridiculous!

One thing that I find interesting is that both the hardlines and softlines zone supervisors are helping out whenever they can but I've never seen the SGM pitch in and she is the one telling that everyone needs to help out.
