Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

New hires

Just heard from the second level that they hired over 100 facility techs in NJ, mostly for fios installs up north. How do you think this will affect any possible eisp for 3rd or 4th quarter of 2018? I’d like to think the company would want to get the more senior people off of the payroll but at the same time, how can they justify a surplus when they just hired over 100 techs? I’m thinking it’ll push back any eisp offer to the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2019.

Oh yeah? Well, the Jerk Store called, and they’re running out of you.

On a more serious note, do you know where my wife is?

@6ykz -- more unprotected union members. Unprotected being the key word.

@3ely

WRONG!! They had a huge eisp October 2016 then hired a lot of facility techs the following April. That’s only 6 months later...not a year. More union employees=the union gets stronger!

You are thinking of this all wrong,. "read your contract" is good afvice.

Once an EISP has been offered, no hiring can be done for a year.

So 1st you have a hiring,. Second the company offers an EISP.

3RD you have a hiring freeze.

The company gets a cheaper work force with people just happy to have a job.

The Union gets weaker.

@2fyd, your "logic" is illogical.

If you want experienced and seasoned folks, the aging people who might face more health issues and who also might possess less stamina than a young buck, those who have 5 weeks vacation, off the payroll, but the GATT rate situation is slowing the retirement take rate to a trickle, how could that conundrum be eliminated?

C'mon @2fyd, that lightbulb above your head is starting to flicker. I see it. You're almost there. Sure, right now you've got that confused dog look, and your head's bent with one ear higher, but I see an epiphany in your near-future.

ahhh, maybe because no one will leave with an unfavorable GATT rate making it too financially difficult to leave at this juncture?

GATT rate making people retire for nothing, why would they have an EISP? aint happening

It has already been made clear that the days of EISPs are over. They will never happen again so long as Ellis is CFO. And now with Hans at the helm, you can be more assured that there will be no EISPs offered for at least 5 years, likely never.

Why would anyone be working for Ericsson? Hans was booted from there. They have no experience as an operating company in this country. It sounds like some kind of a pipe dream. What are you smoking? Working for a lower rate is not happening either. I would never work for a lower rate whoever the employer may be. I would just cash out.

You’re going to be working for Ericsson at a lower rate. Stop the denial. Sad.

I would take any EISP, doesn't have to be the special one.

Unfortunately the field technician title is about as bullet proof as you can get. We are going to be building 5G for a few years at a minimum. I am waiting for an EISP as well but doubt there will be one anytime soon. I advise you to just keep raking in the cash while it is there, eventually they wont be able to help themselves and will make us an offer. Kind of ironic for this site but no layoff for you or your kind.
