Rumors of GOM move

I work in the Covington office. Rumors have begun to circulate that the office will be closed and everybody will move to Houston. Any truth to the rumors or folks just gossiping?

Recycled speculation or not; the new Executive Regime will make changes. Its much more likely now that signficant restructuring will occur over the next few years. Wait and see. The time has come and the team is in place. I don't expect anything radical, but the shift of vision will be heavily toward effeciency in all areas, lean staff, consolidation of offices, core processes and technical systems across the enterprise. The bottom line will become the top priority; more so than we have seen in the past. I think good things are on the horizon for the company as a whole.

Odds are increasing with each passing quarter that executive leadership will take further steps to consolidate our office footprint in the interest of cost control and lowering overhead. It makes good common sense and better business sense. And yes it was asked and answered in last weeks quarterly earnings call. No need for the negative reviews on the posts who are only raising awareness of this fact. A personal plan to succeed may include plans to move if /when offered the opportunity. The company is doing well and offers generous compensation packages which are well worthy of relocaton consideration for employees who seek continued service and gainful employment. Good luck to all in the future.

I've been in Houston for quite some time and still waiting for the chefs that you speak of. Well, since you like to make up lies and live in a make believe world, Let me fill others in. I've never lived there, but New Orleans has vastly better food and better chefs. There's no comparison, not even by a long shot. Deal with it. Yes you are a "froggy in the well" . Step outside of the box, live a little. and learn a few things about the world. Heck, it's fun out here!

Also, I do have residences in more than one city. Hope that doesn't offend anyone- LOL!

You are all in regional offices, unless you are in Houston. Got that San Ramon? The clock is ticking.

On the earnings call this week Wirth confirmed closing of regional offices to reduce cost. You can read it in the call transcript if you missed it.

“Have balls to tell anyone to their face”, 17ztz? Why should they enlighten you or anyone? Take any comment you hear or read on face value. Don’t expect anyone to vouch or affirm anything for your sake. Do your own investigating or get your information from trusted sources. Don’t expect for anyone to put their own job on the line just to inform you. Dim wit.

In an elevator in the 1400 two men were talking about a proposed ROM in GOM yesterday. They were whispering but I could hear bits and pieces of the conversation. I hope it was just talk and not true. I have been trying to get into GOM for two years now.

Oh yes, you can feel the bitterness. You got him right where he lives. Misery, hopelessness, no chance to retire comfortably. He’ll be a sad working stiff long into old age. Stew in your bitterness, fella. As much as you lash back with insults, you just sink lower and keep me entertained with your antics.

Yeah, we get it @16erl. You are the obnoxious loud neighbor that everyone in the trailer park pitifully knows all too well and frequently needs to call the police out to simmer you down. I’m glad we don’t let d---beats like you into our gated community or at the clubhouse, not even as a guest.

Living from trailer park to trailer park is more like it. ......LMAO so hard!!! And learn to spell. It’s several “COUNTIES”, that you mean, not countries. .......LMAO even harder!!!

16ely, Positive. The GOM office will close soon enough and what’s left will be moved to Houston. Dream, pray or cry all you want, but it will disappear in the next restructuring of the company. Don’t be naive to think it won’t.

Yes, 15cra it has been 3 years (behind schedule). GOM will be history very soon. Pack your bags and go West, son. West to Houston.

@Socy - That depends. If you are near retirement age or can afford to retire well enough right now, then I wouldn’t be too concerned what the rumor mill is saying. If you’re a youngster or someone with a mortgage and bills still to pay, then it’s best to always have your radars up. Do your job well, keep up your networking, maintain your resume updated, always know what jobs are opening up, meet up with your PDR to discuss other possible opportunities. In other words, keep your eyes peeled and read the writing on the walls.

Speculation has begun about possible layoffs in 2019 in GOM. As a GOM employee should I be concerned or just ignore the speculation or gossip mill?

No -Aexr, We got rid of the filthy Cajuns but kept the clean ones and the swamp boats. Covington office is still in operation for the time being. No telling as of now whether Chevron unloads it or keeps it. I’m in the opinion camp of chances being pretty good that before too long, most of the personnel will be transferred to Houston or laid off. There will be a small essential presence to be kept in Louisiana, but where is anyone’s guess.

I do get out a lot, zpij. I’ve been retired for 3 years and so visited 6 countries at length and lived in one for the last 6 months. I’m only drawing a contrast to many of you ‘froggies in the well’ world experiences.

I have had more passports than I can remember. Some expired. Some for no more ability to add pages. One because the US State Department stamped it “ for travel only to Isreal” where I was not planning to go and I lived in the UAE at the time. But nobody has better funnel cakes than Houston. And my only regret about the UAE is that I never went to the Musandam peninsula. I later worked with a guy who did go there on a sailboat and he said it was like Norway. Only warmer. I never went because I didn’t have a visa back then.

All the nay-sayers on here are ‘froggies in well’. Their little patch of land is their world and they have no inclination to explore or learn of anything other than what’s inside a 15 mile radius. Being purposefully ignorant or complacent gives a person reason to opine. Just read and stay quiet.

I am both nouk and nxoz. I just wanted to add the post scriptum about the riding lawn mower because someone else mentioned it, I have never owned one and I have always drolled over them whenever I go into a Home Depot when on a repat to the USA because one thing most other countries do not have is a good hardware store. And don’t give me those DIYs in the UK. Lived there once and they are useless.

Oh and one of my few remaining goals is to buy a riding lawn mower and cut the grass while drinking a cold beer. That would make me happy.

Well to be more clear, yes I have done a lot of miles. I have been in many countries. I have lived overseas in seven different countries for 29 years. So I have seen more than just airports. Every year for vacation, we would pick a different country. My kids have been in 22 countries. Not trying to impress anyone. As I said, I am not sophisticated. I have lived in nice places and places not so nice. I do not want to travel anymore. I am repatriating back to the USA in 27 days and will be unemployed. Looking forward to it.

Bunch of O+M hayseeds sitting on their riding mowers howling how they rotated to 30 countries but in reality never saw anything other than the airport and site.

I laugh at load at people who measure their “world travel” experience in miles. Brother, unless you’re trying to one-up your friends and acquaintances on how many air miles you amassed, the term “travel” means a lot more if you tally the days, months or years you actually spent away from your home country. That’s the true meaning and worth of a “world travelled” person.

I am not myhh but I too used to travel for work. I have been to just north of 30 countries. I used to work for a service company and one year I did over 200,000 air miles. I got almost no sleep that year because I was always jet lagged. So I hate to travel. I hope I never step foot in another airport ever. There is also not much left that I have an overwhelming desire to see. My bucket list is pretty empty. I also don’t consider myself as sophisticated. I am just someone who made some choices early on that presented me with some opportunities that most of my high school graduating class did not have. I am first generation ex-trailer trash but I embrace my roots. I don’t care for foie gras. I prefer beer over champagne but I still will drink it. Just because I was able to put some money in the bank doesn’t make me special. I have sisters who were not as fortunate so I am always reminded of who I really am and I and okay with that.

Your bias and lack of sophistication is evident in your first sentence; “Never did care much for travelling.” Your opinion has less value to others, but your opinion is good for you. Don’t be ashamed. That’s why most people in the world grow up in one place and rarely move outside the local area. So when you share opinions in the future, please remember that your bias does not make you the expert. Be open minded.

Glad you brought up the distinction -licf. Harvey was last year in Houston and we’re practically back on our feet and moving forward. Katrina was 13 years ago in New Orleans and things are still as slow as molasses. New Orleans still blames Katrina for their trauma. Most of Houston has already gotten beyond Harvey. Why don’t you keep traveling, son.
