Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why are we doing this? How are we doing this?

How is it that we are closing stores left and right and yet we have to recreate electronics now to carry video game and Apple products? Even Apple watches? Who’s going to be buying this?

And no commission on Apple? That’s total BS.

A few months back somebody posted that we were going to do this I just assumed it was bs. Apparently not.

Apple, Sony products are third party buys and are older models.

@gol proven wrong: "Apple, Sony and Xbox products have arrived" at test stores - https://www.thelayoff.com/t/TWo0kaH

They are still able to afford ads when they want to... Sears has been suddenly running a lot of TV ads the past week, for the 4th of July appliance sale. I saw some on primetime CBS.

No advertising budget, which is part of the problem. Even if Sears/Kmart were giving stuff away for free no one would know about it because there are no ads. No customers means no sales.

@rba: I saw a television ad on TLC just this week. I think it was for 4th of July appliance sale (wasn't paying close attention).

Just because it's on the website doesn't mean the stores will have it. Zero chance that Apple, who rigorously controls where their products are sold, would let their pretty products be displayed in Sears. They don'e let Walmart or Target have these products in store, why would they let Sears? (Target and Walmart do sell iPads, but not Apple computers)

So how much electronics would they need to sell to get out of debt? Another idea that will be executed poorly, dropped after a few months, or have some mysterious "vendor issue".

If they can manage to offer this stuff in enough of their stores, at competitive-enough prices, for long enough to make it through the Black Thursday/Friday / holiday season, and run some ads to let enough people know they actually have it... it might help. I know a significant amount of the modest amount of Thursday/Black Friday shoppers last year were looking for electronics and so left empty-handed.
