ACS HW field engineers downgrade

for all those still doubtful about the future of all HW org (and I mean all... including ES) here is a fact: all the HW field eng in EMEA/APAC with a grade IC3 or IC4 have been downgraded to IC2. the roll out will depend on specific countriy's rules, but it's decided. again, this is not a speculation, it's something decided and already made known to syndicates.

of course, needless to say those IC2 field eng will be requested to do the same work as before, unfortunately this is against Oracle's own policy, an IC2 can independently do a very restricted subset of things that an IC4 can do, and so all these new IC2 will be gracefully riffed very quickly given they are no more useful.

I would be very curious to know how Oracle wants to manage Exadata tickets in the future. do top management really believe everything can be done remotely through the romenian hub? that's crazy.

@UpY3po0-6ksw, you think he has a choice? The decisions are made by MH. Self preservation...a yes man...so are the rest of us. We all know how to show numbers...game over.

For a guy that runs the apac emea support org and is a former field engineer himself. He certainly has a very short memory of what it's like to be at the pointy end of the stick..

So as IC2 what would be different than IC4. Sorry for question but am not aware of the difference in role, authority etc when it comes to actual work.

I'm an hw field eng in western Europe, IC4 and 20+ years of experience.

yesterday I was informed by a local member of the working council that I will be "re-aligned" as IC2 in a move to have all EMEA-APAC field engs aligned at the same level.

my salary will not change (for now at least), as will not change my daily business.

the working council member also said that per Oracle policy I should not be doing as IC2 what I usually do as IC4, but will be my decision to do so. if I refuse to do, I will be riffed.

so if I decide to be out of Oracle policy, I can continue to work. if I decide to stay in policy, I will be riffed. this is pure madness.

morevoer, in my region just started an incentive program to "voluntary exit" of field engs (with a good package I must say).

all in all, I think I will start looking for another job and leave as soon as possible this rotted company.

I am an IC3 in the US, I could care less about about the title. Just give us meaningful work and rid of all the BS goals and metrics that are irrelevant to the customers’ experience.

I'm not sure what this would buy for Oracle, unless pay cuts were part of the deal. Simply getting demoted doesn't mean an automatic pay cut.

I know Oracle can re-categorize job levels, but I believe there needs to be some legal notice if those changes impact salaries.

O can do anything they want. They figure that a lot will leave and not pay severance. Many will stay because there's nothing out there to move to. No one is paying the kind of $$$ that O is paying for FE.

Maybe they get a lower severance package as an IC2?

Webex! that's how they will do it. Plug in your laptop and someone will assist you remotely.

Why would Oracle downgrade these employees if they plan to RIF them?
