Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Beware : Scam hiring & fake jobs

Fake news.

Fake Economy.

.. and...

Fake jobs (jobs which don't exist and there will be no hiring for - get posted, resumes collected and false interviews held). Intel is not the only company fake hiring. Amazon, Microsoft, Apple ... do this all the time.

  • trick interviewees into revealing confidential competitive information.

  • get info out of you on how to solve an existing problem.

  • fishing for ideas to use because they had no idea

Online hiring makes it easy for anyone to exploit the job market and job candidates. So what can you do ?

Not to move the topic into another direction, but I was asked to help in the interview process to fill a real job (kind of), but after agreeing to sit on the interview team I was told that we could only hire a female (the manager said that the decision came from HR).

It was indeed a fake job....for all the male candidates. Some of the men had even flown in for the interview. My participation was minimal and I refused to agree to any candidate. Afterwards I told the hiring manager I will never participate in any interview that was not open to all qualified candidates.

I also had to complete a 10 question survey which asked me about how long I have been unemployed and what welfare benefits i might have received in past 6 months.

@2flx For finance and bank jobs you have to. They have to check your credit history.

@2rve. You don't need to give your social and DoB away when filling in an application. In fact, it is illegal to ask your DoB when applying for a job.

I will tell you who also loves the perception of growth.... government! Hence, the lack of regulations on this issue.

Simple solution... Require pay for job interviews.

I agree. Even some interviewers want to learn from applicants and then reject the most qualified.

You forgot identity theft. Put an ad out, have them fill out an application, and you have SS # DOB, everything. Even if the company is legit, you think HR departments don't have addicts and other thieves working in them.

Yes. Fake jobs are posted by many people to comply with certain HR rules. I am a walk-in witness. I was forced to post a job and interview people for a particular job even thought my boss already has told one person from his circle of friends the job was his.

This does happen. I've had this experience fairly recently.

Realizing this (and preferring to work for myself anyway) I perform fake applications. I apply and interview with ZERO intention of getting those jobs. I have a LOT of fun with it. I script a comedy-skit outline for each interview and say the most outrageous things on those interviews. Sometimes the interviewer gets confused or annoyed. But I usually leave them laughing hard. Only once, it resulted in a job offer. They loved my attitude and creativity. But I politely declined; keeping to the character-roll from that skit. I really should start recording the interviews and turning those into animations; just not sure what the laws are about that.

I am convinced that several interviewers ask candidates to problem solve or do 'sample projects' to prove their capabilities all the while just looking to use someone elses time and creativity to get a job done they otherwise might not be able to or have the time for.

One of the worst perpetrators for fake jobs are the recruiting agencies, such as an engineering agency, or a banking agency, who continually advertise jobs which don't exist simply in order to harvest CV's. What they are able to then do is approach large companies and boast about having so many valid CV's from real jobhunters.

Recently i was told by a company that they needed me to prepare a presentation.......just to be shortlisted. this presentation basically proposed how i could improve the rate of customer conversation and tactics. Only to realize an associate of mine applied for the same job and was asked to do the same. We both haven't heard back from the company. So it was basically a free brainstorming initiative at job seekers cost. It's absolutely disgusting what companies are doing.

Indeed.com is probably number#1 suspect of allowing this ill-gain practice.
