Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM Cuts Contractor Hours

Here is the situation, a golden IBM classic: we just got an update that they (VPs) have requested all contractors on our account to cut their hours starting next week. This is to last three weeks. As we have a major deployment in a week, this will adversely affect the deployment, will screw all of us working (we’ll have to carry that extra load on top of my standard 55 to 60 hrs/wk) and it will definitely royally f--- the client via poor quality of work and all issues that will start popping up once we flip the switch.

The VPs do not care. The managers do not care. Everyone is giving about zero f---s about this and IBM is here doing a literal account s---c-de – there is no way in hell the client will put up with this in the long term, our position here is soft with other SIs, Consultants and Outsourcers just waiting to grab our piece of the pie.

It’s perplexing how much the execs do not care. No wander we are fading away into an eternal IT oblivion and irrelevance…

This makes me sick…

The contractors can go to another contract if they are unhappy. Why deal with getting hours cut?

The ones I used to work with moved on months ago to other contracts with different companies where they get 40hrs every week. Why any contractor would want to consider IBM is beyond me, they have been screwing contractors every year for the last 10 yrs or more.

They cry themselves to sleep on their $1,000 linens. However, they head to the Hamptons on the weekend to "unwind". They are pirates and looters and we reward their kind in this country.

Sounds like a good time to either; take some FML or ask for a decent raise.

Know when to leverage yourself. Don't let the managers try to squeeze you too hard.

And especially don't kill yourself for any BS internal IBM process that the client cares less about.

Please note that IBM combined GTS and GBS in 1st q thus making 15k heads redundant (you would think that redundancy should have been worked off by now). ALSO note IBM laid off in 1st q across the board to head off a slow down in system z lifecycle Sales. This according to the CFO analyst call so “already in plan and on the schedule”. As such I would speculate the 3rd q is coming in a little light services wise, and perhaps company wise. So with that said, MAYBE Ginni should just pull the trigger and get the bad news behind her. We all know it’s coming it’s just a matter of when. It’s time to restructure IBM to stop this death by 1000 cuts!!! The street will not tolerate excuses from this management team anymore, as they have heard them all before. Opinions????

GTS has done this multiple times before. This means GTS is worried about making 3Q earnings target and this is the easiest and fastest way to reduce expenses. Labor is the biggest GTS expense and additional layoffs of full time employees will do nothing for 3Q financials.

You are salaried and expected to work 24/7 at no additional compensation.

That's the mindset bro.

VPs are here to eat lunches and take clients for dinners.
