Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Why Sam’s Club is a Terrible Place to Work

Team,

I read here often gripes and would say I have made excuses. First I am a GM, where is not important. I want to list for you All, reasons I will be leaving:

The Market Manager:

He has been targeted on here several times . I will only say those who posted have grounds for Complaint.

He is a S-xist, a Racist and a very Disrepectful , unprofessional excuse for a MM who had hurt this Company and driven out Talent! He has Zero respect for anyone.

Period.

Lack of Respect for the Individual: Our Core Values are Gone. Gisel and John Furner and Doug have made us Wal Mart...

No Amount of money is worth your self respect. I will be taking my PTO time which I earned , then I will be giving my two weeks notice. I will have a position to report to when they walk me out!

I am a long term Sam’s Associate , I am sick when I see what this MM and Co have done to very good Managers for No justifiable reason. No more going home sick or having Anxiety attacks on Sunday nights or being afraid to take days off. For me the pain will be over soon. To my contemporaries and those who are working to get ahead, give it up. Do not toil another day you don’t have to for miserable creations who will never appreciate you. Like the Club Business go to BJ’s or Costco .. This place is a Meat Grinder!

Last but not least for your families, for yourself get your self respect back, trust your instincts you know I’m right. Trust me it’s always easier to stay than to go. If you do You Will live to regret it! Count on it!

We cannot attract Talent:

No Manager worth his salt unless they are green, naive or desperate will come to work for this Company. Only retreads people down on their luck at the twilight of their Careers. It’s All we can possibly attract.

Favoritism: overt disrespect hiring Toys r Us

Losers retreads who left multiple times, failed and are treated as though they are Stars by the MM! It’s sickening! Just get out!

May God Guide you All to a better place!

As for meI feel better already!

Peace!

I do believe something is being done about Market 15.. There is an old saying “ Facts are stubborn things” comes a point you simply cannot whitewash or continue to make excuses for the inexcusable.

Change is coming. Patience..

@2mzv yes they know more than they let on, but seriously we don't know as much as you think. I am not the original poster but I am a manager, so I know even less. HO knows there would be leaks, and even HO doesn't have exact dates. They literally pull it out of their a$$ and suddenly it's out there. What they do is try to pump everyone up and act like there are some amazing positive things in the works for our company. Like when John first started, he went on about all these great changes. We're going to take a lot of paperwork and reports away from certain departments, but he's not mentioning that it will also take away actual departments and the people in them. We're going to make a new auditing system to make it easier on the audit team, so the TL can focus more on reports. Then suddenly, oh by the way, we're also getting rid of the audit team. It's like the devil standing up there preaching and saying things people want to hear. All the while, he's planning to hit everyone with what's really going on. Brainwashing at it's finest.

Ok GM... who’s dept is next to be axed.. when are they going to have an unmanned jewelry counter? It’s ok to tell since you are leaving soon. We all know the GMs know more than they let on .. So give us the scoop please. If PTC is going away why are they filling the position? Happened at my club in Texas. Tell us what you know.

I am the poster who stated you treated your associates poorly. Frankly I continue with the company for three reasons. 1. people are people so no matter the big corporation ( maybe not little mom and pops) most if not all the managers will be treating their workers like they do at Sam's . 2. Not likely to find similar pay starting somewhere else. 3. I do not dislike the work I currently do.

That said , I am very good at getting along with management. I rarely question what I have been told to do. I work hard. I get done on time or early so I can help in other tasks. I rarely call off. I am always on time. I have been consistent in all this for 20 plus years. ...................Yet since I first hired on I have met one manager whom I might believe did not treat his people poorly. He was not a GM. I have hoped in my mind that I have been right about him. It would be sad to find out otherwise. Beyond him I have met zero managers who were not eventually caught in lies. Who did not retaliate in some way. Who did not break company rules to their own convenience. Who did not hold workers to nearly and sometimes actual impossible standards. And the list could go on.

Why do managers behave this way? Ultimately it is because they are human. Beyond that there are many variables that bring out bad behavior. Sometimes a person is a bad egg before ever getting into management. Usually though most get into management thinking they will never be like poor managers they have had. Yet alas they fall into the same ways. Why? Simple , it is easier to behave poorly than well.

Some are much worse than others. Maybe you are not too bad and maybe you are an angel

Who the f--- are you to say what someone has or has not done with their life you loser. You know nothing about that GM or why things are as they are. All they said is their leaving and why.. giving a heads up to newer or younger employees. Encouraging them to work for a Company that appreciates and cares for its Associates!

I think the original posters point is that he is that bad, and they refer to the current role. They are not trashing the individual. In that GM’s opinion criticism is warranted. That said they are entitled to their opinion. Right or wrong . They have decided to move on, and encouraged others to look forward not to put their heads down and ignore the obvious. I think the post was sincere and straight forward. A cautionary tale. I believe it was respectful. I also feel regarding the climate in the Company now, it’s a spot on assessment. IMO

Cheers!

Truthfully,

It’s ridiculous to answer the poster who determines how I treated and continue to treat my Team. I have always treated my Team respectfully , I don’t need to justify that to you! But the fact that you believe GM’s abuse their teams, or say such things is exactly why I have decided to move on.

As for the comments of slander ? I very specifically did not identify the Market, if some one is behaving this way they know who they are. I feel it’s less about the MM and more about the Co. I do feel strongly they do not support the Clubs, as is their role. I do not care what anyone else thinks. I made my personal decision and I am very satisfied it’s the right one. Stay or go it’s an individual choice. Like I said prior , that

You Will live to regret it. The fake news troll is just a clown. I’m speaking from my heart, I’m sad to see what has happened to our Company. Just my opinion and for the record I have a good report and reputation with the Co. I just choose to go for the reasons I identified. Im not demonizing anyone including our MM. I simply cannot work under that type of Leadership. It is anachronistic, the antithesis of how to motivate and connect w a team. Don’t bother trashing me guys, I’m gone in a month. I’m hoping you all will find a hone where you are well treated and respected

as a valued Team Member.

God Bless!!

If you are a GM and have been in management for awhile you are quite amusing to me. There is no way in all the world you have not treated your own associates just the way you complain your MM is treating you. The difference in that until somewhat recently you were not treated like you treated your associates. Now that you are getting p--ped on to it's all wah wah wah cry cry cry. Been with the company many years myself and from the beginning I watched management treat workers bad. Favoritism has ALWAYS been the way along with retaliation. Retaliation is by the way something else you very most likely done your share of too.

You can deny all this but unless you are Mother Teresa reincarnated you would just be lying. It might be true you have done these things a bit less than others but not much.

I don’t understand why this site is allowing slanderous comments to be made singling out a single person who can easily be identified. If the guy was that bad he wouldn’t be around. Maybe he’s just doing the job he was hired to do. Think about that for a minute.

When people feel like this and speak from the heart, you know things are bad! Company does not care about Associates / Managers esp GM’s....I have watched our Market Manager just abuse our GM use profanity on the floor. It’s awful to treat people like this . Decent guy did not deserve it. Too bad really. Market Manager did not like him. Supposedly he has done this elsewhere.i only know what I saw. Do not want any trouble.

Good for you! That's what so many don't get. You really have to just walk away. They're all fighting a losing battle. Every single one. They all think getting a severance check will somehow justify the stress and loss of family time. HO doesn't mind that everyone is going crazy wondering who is being cut next. They know it just keeps these long term people giving their all until THEY say it's time to go.

Not saying which Market but I honestly have made myself physically sick. It is a Zero sum game, and as a GM I can assure you my friend we are the most disposable, all of us! This particular MM is really without getting personal is just something beyond Awful. Anyone from HO who could do something has turned their back. They encourage people like him. I know Crazy when I see it, I’m not crazy enough to put up with this guy any longer. He has made my life and that of others despicable. I will not go into details, and I know what he has done to others. I just choose to go. It’s better for my health, family and Sanity. God Bless All of You! I have just had enough!

Good for you buddy. I've seen several GMs lately and they all seem to think and do the same. Allow the stress to get to them, take it out on the associates, neglect their family as if it's a good thing, they think if they are there everyday then they will be looked at as a better leader by HO and MM, they think changing things up all the time makes them seem smart like they are a merchandiser. And when it comes down to it - they know the absolute least about their own store and are just as disposable as all of us.
