Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

So Long and Thanks for all the Fish

Dear Cisco & SPVSS

it's been a wild 6 years since your dysfunctional company bought NDS and effectively ruined not only our company and products but also our relationship (and your reputation) with dozens of broadcasters world-wide. We used to look up to Cisco (at least, before we were acquired) but we have all been taught a great lesson in how arrogance and greed, not to mention mediocrity, can (almost) destroy a well-run and innovative company.

Cisco - you are a case study and rest assured, you will not be around 20 years from now.

In the name of the thousands of NDS staff that were sacrificed along the way, so long and thanks for all the fish!

If you're not getting at least 4% back on your travel purchases from a credit card now is the time to get a better card.

We already miss the world of Cisco, even with the constant threat of LR.

Synamedia have moved us into their new Head Office where nothing works and we have no onsite IT support. Synamedia expects us to personally pay for our travel but their expense system doesn’t work so we can’t claim it back. Remote support for the expense system is out of office this week. Hopefully the new CIO got a good arse kicking when the Chairman did his royal visit yesterday.

Given the two month delay in closing the deal, and the not inconsiderable size of the new company, it’s pretty scary how poorly planned and executed this transition is.

Are we part of Cisco’s LR but to be executed by Synamedia…if they can get their act together?

Good points by the original poster and Yvettes Mum, however not everything can be blamed on Cisco. There are still too many senior people in Synamedia who fall into one of three buckets.

  1. Seachange people brought in who ran that company down but somehow were expected to do good things in SPVSS.

  2. Senior ex NDS people who checked out waiting for the payoff. All the ones who cared fought and were let go.

  3. Second rate ex Scientific Atlanta people.

Cisco SPVSS leadership was a revolving door prior to NDS. Mike V, Enrique R, and I think one more. Enrique never moved to a Cisco location and worked from home during his short tenure.

On the plus side, he built LWR building 6 right before the first of many downsizings, helping create the spacious uncluttered campus we can all enjoy today.

Also thanks for the big a-- bonuses you paid. Getting rid of dead wood from legacy systems sure helped pay for some nice rewards for the rest of us.
