Chevron has destroyed my career. Laid me off without a thought. One day I hope before I depart from this world I will see then destroyed like many of the other giant oil companies like AMOCo etc. No consideration for ppl

LOL. Get a life. If you think getting laid off during a workforce reduction destroyed your career, you had no career to begin with. Most others with any skills at all came out of it better off and if anything CVX HELPED their career with the experience, quite the opposite.
Chevron took my career to the next level. Laid off in 2016 and now I’m making 3x what I did when I got the boot.
@5wih, I don’t think AI and advances in computer software will impact the meaningful job positions in the oil and gas industry. Lots of the work still must be done by the humans. If you are referring to the make-busy fluffy niche jobs that employ simpletons for the sake of propping up an affirmative action and political correctness headcount quota system, then yes, there will be some heads rolling once these advances are put in place.
The oil industry, in general, destroys careers. This is a very unstable industry and the longer you are in it, the greater is the probability that you will be laid off. Just wait another 5-10 years when advances in computer software and AI really become prevalent. Hands on real work experience and knowledge will not be very important.
Man up. We all hate what has happened to chevron and the transfer of 100 billion dollars of American wealth outside the us at the expense of the American people. It is capitalism in its sickest form and you were caught on the wrong side
You’re right, 2mtk. There’s so many losers posting insults and immature trash on this site, that I wonder if things at Chevron would have been not as bad if only if they would have laid off years beforehand.
Love seeing the real Chevron on these boards. It's priceless.
I don't get anywhere near the petty, pathetic, name calling, cowardly attitudes that come up on here with every post at my current company.
Don't believe severance benefits are available to everyone. I hear some get it and some don't within the same year. Would be interested in a lawyer's opinion if this is a form of discrimination. Shall we take it to the courts?
Zntb being laid off hurts.........it hurts even more if you felt you were indispensable and Chevron couldn't survivie without you and only losers get laid off............it much much more if you even laughed at those who were let go............
I could go on about the degrees of hurt you feel........but whats the point......
Please pick yourself up, hold your head high move on with your life.....redirect your bitterness to Chevron in being the best you can ev er be in life, you have bills to pay, a life ahead of you filled with even bigger challenges that you need to address. Unfortunately time doesn't stand still, you have to move on, dwelling on the pain is only detrimental to you!!
All Chevron laid off employees get a severance, @pry. Why do you have to ask? Surely you were not employee, else you wouldn’t have asked.
How is the severance package? Did they throw you a bone?
So you got the boot, big deal, live with it. Stop complaining, get off your rear end and move on. There are more career opportunities in this world than Chevron.
A family member got sick and tired of not getting the compensation he felt his contribution warranted so quit that oil-related business and formed his own company as the ceo. His growth ambitions for the company are now several hundred million dollars. It may work, it may fail, but don’t regret not having a stab at something else.
Hard experience, no doubt.
However, learn from it and move forward as others in your situation before (including myself) have.
With few exceptions, no one is your friend. look after yourself, stay positive, and move on. Remember that family is what is most important - remain strong for others and never give up on your career goals.
I’ve worked at 6 different places over 35 years, and have seen numerous personal and individual ups and downs.
AMOCO was not destroyed. It was acquired by BP. The Amoco name disappeared but the company continues on within BP. Learn your O&G history.
As technology gets better and better where robots take over many labor jobs and now even professional jobs, human jobs will decrease. If our kids don't start putting their heads into books instead of video games, China will rule the world. China now wants to sell majority of clean energy to Europe and other third world countries for cheap. If Europe takes the bait and get the energy from China, then China will be have the upper hand when trading with Europe on other things.
China, the Chinese, and American Greedy Executives are to blame as far as your job is concerned. Chinese young adults are getting hired by Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook in US, then work for a few years to get experience and then go back to China to work for big corps (ruled by the communist party) or create a startup with all the experienced Chinese young adults who once worked for American Tech companies. China wants to control the world and we are giving into them - from our technology to our farm products to real estate in NYC. And they want to create man made islands to control international area of the ocean. US companies should not hire any Chinese that are not USA Citizens. Else the knowledge from US will go back to China and they will rule.
