Anyone know when to expect layoffs to happen for IT?

@WqtIyez-wjo GM is an OEM and sells products, not services. No cars = no company. I have worked in every area of IT over the past 25 years and possess several advanced degrees. Therefore, I am more than qualified to advise that you are a classless imbecile.

This whole thread is disgusting. I work in IT and most of my peers are completely useless (management included). Cyber Security is some of the worst offenders. Many of them should be let go based on the quality of work they perform. IT is over staffed and I am sure half of them could likely be let go with no noticeable impact to the company. The line workers are building the products that make the company money, and they are far more productive than many of my peers. It does not matter if they "press the same buttons day in day out without using any semblance of intellect".

Thats the beauty if IT though. You can go anywhere with your 6 fig skill set. Companies are having data breaches left and right if GM cant continue to pay someone else will.

Line workers are kind of limited to their skill set which is being in a plant performing repetitive tasks and let me tell you my friend that is on the way out in this economy.

If your job requires no thought and is repetitive you had better get with the times because a robot is coming for you.

6 figure salaries can't be sustained if there are no car sales. Looks like former EDS, HPE, HPQ, CSC, employees will be saying bye bye soon. Outsource that work to China and other low paid skillset.

Why would IT be laid off? I wouldn’t expect low iq automoton line workers to understand all the things that happen behind the scenes that let a company actually function such as connectivity, cyber security, etc. All they know is go in press the same buttons day in day out without using any semblance of intellect. This is why they are expendable and easily replaced by automation.

The cars aren’t selling you can’t just keep plants open that are losing money just for the sole purpose of feeding people.

I tell you what though. Go into the IT field if you are out of a job. Cyber security literally has a negative unemployment rate and salaries generally starting off 120k+.
