Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Less generous offer the next time?

Less generous offer the next time? I doubt it; the company wants people to leave and offering less will not do that. Folks will ride it out to the bitter end. What was offered this time was not that great once it is taxed.

If Hans wants techs to go he could spend a couple billion and offer 4 full years of pay and insurance and the 60+ crowd would sign up PDQ and anxiously wait for their last day. Most of his techs are Union and with this contract he will pay that same money anyway over the next 4 years. Might as well get them out now and replace them with unprotected, lower wage employees or with contractors.

I agree with @WsnrYiV-1opg on this. Thought he was on point so I reposted his post as a thread.

"People seem to be confusing the VSP offer with sales offers like TVs and PCs at amazon where they sell what they can at that price, then present a better offer. The chance of another VSP offer in the next 5-10 years is not even 1 percent."

While I agree it is unlikely, the other view that it will be only every 15 years (say) is also misguided. The company does it when it feels it has to, when the positives are believed to outweigh the many negatives. And if 10% of the doom and gloom confidently predicted on this board become true, VZ would need another downsize quickly in a few years , and the same logic that caused this VSP vs RIF might apply.

That said, I don't think the "VZ is dead" type stuff is even 10% true!

We are just a number to this company. I have adopted their same frame of thinking

They are just a number to me as well . I am not pushing things to get it done.. verizon does not care about me and i don care as well. Verizon keeps people to march and June. I will enjoy the time.Do minimal work. Take your 5 sick days. Vacstion once a month. I will be working less and staying to march. Hans is a fool and i will love some months to do nothing and watch the training team fall to pieces. Our leaders have mo idea whay going.on...grab the pocorn

People seem to be confusing the VSP offer with sales offers like TVs and PCs at amazon where they sell what they can at that price, then present a better offer. The chance of another VSP offer in the next 5-10 years is not even 1 percent. It simply does not make the company look good at all. It also costs not just a lot of money, it is very disruptive to the work place. Let's all get real.

While i agree with some of your statements. They will not give you a better offer, you will just be laid off. The company doesnt owe you d--k!

lol thanks for the comedy.. I can't believe folks really think there will be a better offer. Even if this post is for comedic purposes.. I have actually heard others say another they feel a better offer is coming.. or that the same offer will come back again. So they offer this package that has only been offered ONCE before. You feel they will do it again SOON? ok got it! Good luck with that lol.

Get rid of any thought of social responsibility. It is not mandatory for any company to offer a package.

All that matters is share holder value, if you don’t like it get a job at the local commune.

OP - I hear from a senior person the 2032 offer is going to be 3 weeks uncapped! I just hope I can make it that long.

@Wthz5Fb-afh Exactly!

OP - Get back to reality. There will not be another voluntary offer and, future RIFs will be under a much less generous package.

Next offer? The last one was 15 years ago and the only follow ups were involuntary.

I don’t think they are gonna risk another voluntary because it’ll look bad for the stock and many people who aren’t there target will really run for it.

I have read a few places that usually the first buyout offer is the usually best but time will tell.

4-years paid? Well if that doesn't incite idiocy in your frontal lobe, I don't know what else would. Perhaps a discussion of fish that flatulate?
