Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Are managers lying?

They keep saying they have no information whatsoever. How can that be? This is all kabookie theatre. By now, lists must have been prepared resource allocation must be going on. Is this winning with integrity?

@XaTidBG-1jfm I would not make that assumption

Sounds like some people were told they have to be in office certain days next week. I would wager if that's the case, your group will have layoffs. If not, your group probably isn't affected.

I'm a manager and I have not been given any information about the people under me. This leads me to believe that either:

A) My team will not be affected

or

B) I am on the chopping block

Guess I will find out next week.

Even on here we have contracting stories on what people have "heard"

I was being told by my manager that he knows who will get laid off but he won't tell anybody.

I asked my direct manager. He didn't know but he did say that Directors know who is on chop block. I would assume at this point paperwork etc. is being prepared by HR and next week is when we find out after we come back from MLK Holiday

If a manager is one of the ones getting laid off, of course they wouldn’t know! There are so many departments and groups at GM with different tier levels of hierarchy, I am sure it just depends on thr situation. Some managers are tight with their directors and some are not. There is no standardization to this madness!

Ryan Brady, a Director, said that he will not lie. If he's been told not to tell us something, he will say he cannot share that information if he is asked to. If he does not know, he will say he does not know. If a manager isn't permitted to disclose information, particularly if they know who's being laid off and when, they shouldn't lie. Or at least they shouldn't HAVE to lie. They should be allowed to say, and choose to say, that they are not permitted to share anything they know.

I don't blame them for lying if they worry for their own job, but then I blame whoever would come down on them for being real with us and giving us an actual answer, even if they don't give us information.

Directors know; managers dont (unless the directors told them; most haven’t).

They are not instructed to lie, they are prohibited from sharing classified employee information. As a result they lie saying they have no information in order to prevent additional questions.

If managers have been instructed to lie it is truly a sign of a doomed company. Lying corrupts the soul, of both individuals and institutions.

They're lying. A lot of them do have information, but they just aren't permitted to disclose anything

I have no idea. Why don’t you ask your manager?
