Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

We're better than this and don't let anyone tell you different

I honestly hope I get cut. If I don't get cut, I will leave anyway.

The only reason any company can treat their employees this way is because wevallowvthem to. It's not much different than an abusive spouse.

I've been with GM 19 years and have gone through hell with this company. Frankly, I'm done. I didn't go through the last 19 years with this company to go through this.

We're better than this and don't let anyone tell you different. We deserve better than this.

You are better is a myth after being at GM for 17 years!! Go to market to find your worth first. If you do that - very soon you will realize you are worthless and then please post your message here again.

Remember- keep saying ‘I am worthless without GM’ every morning and repeat for other 17 years.

I apologize if this sounds blunt. If you are comparing a company to a “spouse”, there is something wrong with your perception of this world. I mean come on it’s just corporate, no other places I’ve worked at is any different.

From what I heard, the severance packages are the same between voluntary and involuntary so most likely those who took the voluntary packages were either ready to retire or had another job already waiting. Hence why so few people took it. They'd rather stick it out and see what happens.

Those who didn't take it are playing a game of Russian Roulette.

Perhaps OP wanted to take the package and they did not accept his/her VSP application. I know a couple of people who GM rejected when they volunteered for the severance late last year.

@jtf, maybe he or she wasn't offered it. Knowing GM's incompetence, I doubt they would even be able to track down everyone who has been at the company for more than x amount of years.

If you want the cut or leave anyway, and have been at GM for 19 years, then why you didn't take the voluntary severance package? Just wondering. By the way, the for those who took the voluntary package will be employed until Feb 28th, right? That means they are eligible for Bonus as well.
