Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Please remain civil and think before you bash eachothers’ generation.

Many of you are blaming each other for no reason. The older group saying the younger group is on social media all day. The younger group saying the older group has been coasting by as deadweight. Quit turning against each other when the fact is that they’re probably cutting us based on pay, how long we’ve been working for gm, and performance. Do you think that complaining that a bunch of college hires getting paid is going to help you out? No. Unlike what many people seem to believe, not all college hires are on social media all day. Many actually do want to bring innovation to GM and learn about new technologies, and it’s actually harder for us to connect with managers because of the age gap, in case you think many NCH will not get chopped for favoritism. For you younger people who say you can’t stand the older people because they’ve been here for years and do nothing, maybe you’re right and maybe your wrong. They have been in your shoes once, and you may become just like them. Many of them have worked as hard or harder than you and were able to mentor a lot of us. Be grateful. Stop turning against each other by saying who should get fired. It’s not up to you, and it is making everyone crazy. That is all the input I have.

When I started out it was the year 2000 , I was a technician and Listened carefully to the engineering teams that had the experience and expertise , that is how I learned , by closing my mouth. Also lerni g from the other technicians that we're around my age or a bit older than me. O had alot of respect for all of the engineering guys and the stories they had , almost all of them drag racers or one guy was a cheif engineer and broke land speed records at Bonnevilles salt flats , I was 24 at the time and I have fond memories from those days , my experience is you really have to ignore all of the distractions going on in the company and keep your nose to the grindstone , anything elese is just wasted energy. Listen to everyone of all ages , I'm a car guy and passionate about automotive , listening to the guys and the stories they had from all age groups really lit the fire for me , I'm in my 40s now GM is what I basically grew up with and now I'm out of a job for the first time in my life , I hate it because I've never not worked , point is no one is safe no matter how good you are , we all know that there is no guarantee in life , it's a c-ap shoot , I miss my work alot and this just s---s big time. I made it through the bankruptcy in 08 but this time not so lucky.

Crazy how all these old heads and NCH have been going back and forth all weekend. This is how upper management wants it. They want us distracted fighting back and forth so we can't see what's most important in the whole process.

Without details, this sounds like complete nonsense. "dozen NCHs trying to figure something out, wasting a half year of GM's dollar"- this makes no sense at all. Management allocates resources. People need to report progress to management. In no world are resources allocated to projects that can be solved by some mythical business person walking through the door and imparting their magical wisdom. Your post reads like a chain email.

I know useless at both end of the spectrums, as well as useful. Age isn't a requirement. Age doesn't define intellectual capability, or there lack of.

One of my last great treats was a dozen NCHs trying to figure something out, wasting a half year of GM's dollar conducting endless meetings, and far too proud to ask anyone that was in the business a while. Well, when experience finally walked in the door, it gave these kids a wake up call. In less than an hour, six months of waste was resolved, had they only the willingness to ask.

It's ironic, funny, and sad all at the same time.

People shouldn't be taking stances against each other. The enemy is ultimately the higher up management, against the people. Nothing else matters. In my story above, a dozen NCHs wasted corporate dollars for six months. If they aren't my enemy, and they aren't, then I'd say mission accomplished. But, humor aside, don't let pride prevent you from asking for help.
