Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Were the associates that are currently cleaning the the stores asked if they would or are they being forced?

How did your sears store approach this issue? Did they ask at a morning meeting who wd do this?

Our sears is using store support associates for the floors and management for restrooms!

I think any employee of sears that agreed to this just set the stage for this to become a normal business practice which is so wrong in so many ways

Since I’m not on the favoritism list at my store I have not been scheduled to work in almost a month, I wasn’t even asked if I wd like to be in this “new” cleaning team, which I wd not have agreed to anyway

Since there is no expense now for the cleaning crew that was contracted with KBS, wouldn’t that help the store go from unprofitable to profitable?

Was this a store manager idea or corporate

Cleaning crews come back May 5th. In our store, no associates were asked to volunteer. Store Manager is doing it mostly and the other Managers are chipping in. In fact, associates have asked if they can help and the Store Manager said, "No."

@ykd. You are absolutely correct. Unfortunate but true. It's boiler plate language that is buried in all job descriptions unless you are in a union or have an individual employment contract and agreement with your employer.

They asked some employees individually in our Sears store and found a couple who can't say "no." The others they asked said "NO". It's supposed to be temporary until June or July. I'll believe that when I see it.

For the love of god, why is anyone still working for this awful place. The only one you’re helping is Eddie.

Or the only mature one with a brain. If you don’t like your job then leave. Simple as that. That’s why I left. If not shut up and do it.

@apu All of the job descriptions say the following:

“Performs other duties as assigned.”

Look it up your job description.

There you have it.

It’s not forced labor, slavery, and you didn’t get drafted. Every day an employee makes an unwritten contract with his employer. You do what he legally asks or you don’t , And you quit. Nobody’s forcing you to do anything. Employer is buying your services for money, you always have the choice to walk away.
