@YqBW2zb-3grc is spot on

The staff is perfectly capable of creating world-class vehicles. The problem is that management won't let it happen. GM has been risk-averse and run by beancounters for ears.

Remember when management said that GM would be the most innovative car company? Interesting that GM hasn't been first to market with anything since then.

GM is capable , management and top leadership won't allow it. To many managers that do nothing , the focus is diversity and not automotive

GM makes c-ap cars that cost too much.

Honda makes good cars at a fair price.

So it's apples and oranges.

GM could never do what Honda does.

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on legacy costs for price differences. The average 'wage' accounts for about 3% of a vehicle price, so it's not nearly enough of a deal breaker to assume that's a key reason why GM is losing any ground at all to competition. They just have outrageous markup and in my opinion, ugly products. Additionally, GM offloaded its pension obligations in 2008/2009, so the benefit aspects are significantly less than they were in the past. They company has been trimming and trimming for over a decade, and they still can't increase market share. It's not cost. Many people just don't want their overpriced products. Failing in nearly every market, in which Mary shut down sales, what's left of the US, and China is all they have to look forward to. It's a Hail Mary bet on China. Mexico sales arent enough to register as useful.

I've worked in the GM space for 20 years, seen an aweful lot. One of my friends said it best. At GM, we aren't skillful, we're lucky the s**t works. He was a specialaty niche tolerance engineer. Only afew hundred exist in all of the big three among their core group. I won't say any more on that, but I've heard stories that would make me never consider GM just because of it.

Personally, knowing how leadership runs the company over and over again, it's a turn off. I'll take a paycheck for mercenary work sure, but I just find all their products dull and ugly. Maybe with exception to the Camero, but the Bumblebee icon even seems to wear that thin.

Different strokes for different folks. Have to let the numbers tell the story. The truth eventually sorts itself out.

P.S. GM makes a solid beautiful car too , my personal perspective is that the leadership sets a bad tone for their own product , I kinda feel Ford and GM have shot themselves in the foot by making foolish announcements about not building sedans , Ford more than GM it seems. Legacy costs don't easily make a domestic product at the same price point as let's say a Honda however the price of some of those vehicles are climbing in price too , the difference is they do not carry high legacy costs / retired folks not yet anyway. My personal opinion as a car guy is that all manufacturers build a good product and people have alot to choose from , like kids in a candy store. I really hope the leadership will change at GM and very soon because you have many talented folks that are more than capable of doing good work and making rolling works of art. I want to see positive change as a customer GM is capable but God almighty fire that Barra already , Please!!!
