Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Don't let GM use you!

Why stay loyal to GM? What's the last thing this company has ever done for you? Has it given you a proper - key word proper - raise? Invested in your training? I don't think so.

They used you and now they're getting ready to dump you - if they already haven't - with no backup options.

So why do you stay?

I miss all of the Mexican places too, we we're surrounded by the best ones. I was actually really happy to work in Pontiac, I miss my job and my friends there. I know what you mean though, yes I wanted to learn more also but my manager refused to let me, that was last summer. I hope they don't mothball the place, what an absolute waste. I was in (B) first floor.

I don't know if it was just my group, or company-wide, but there was a sense of discouragement towards learning new things. Every time I had down time, I would ask my manager if I could go shadow other teams and see what they're doing. The response I would get was "we're too busy here, we can't afford that!".

But sometimes I would go for weeks without any major stuff to do. I used to play soccer on my mobile instead and look up Craigslist instead

Don't know about building B. I know the majority of them will be sent to Warren.

Man, I miss that Mexican restaurant on Joslyn, across building C!

Nothing makes logical sense anymore. The upper management said they'd invest in EV a lot. So we thought B would be hit bad. But building A & M---ord got hit pretty bad. Whether EV or ICE, you still need PG testing. Nothing seems logical. Nothing sounds coherent.

Z3hK5Fw-8wfq I remember seeing it there too. What are the going to do with building B, just leave it empty?

I used to see so many people at GPS daily-driving Yukons, Escalades, Silverados, etc... costing 70k, 80k or 90k...

Not to rub salt in the wound, but how dumb does one have to be? Experiencing the 2008 period, and now the 2019, yet they forgot and bought these oversized overpriced bloated minivans to transport just 1 person!

And they want all electric!?!?!? Are you serious! Stop it now. Nobody wants that much personal freedom taken away, it's all a bunch of bull.

Always hated the upper level ethics at GM, but for lack of other options, had to work there for 3 years. Right from the get-go, the HR showed how poorly they treat their employees. GM is only concerned about having a 1:1 gender ratio, regardless of skills. A huge push to prefer women in everything, even when a good number of them clearly don't have any needed skills.

I quit that sewage hole a long while ago, couldn't be happier! Lots of shady things with the whole ignition recall issues, same cover-ups again,... they learned nothing from the bankruptcy, nor the ignition recalls!

After working with some of the engineers at GM and having 1st hand experience with how they treat customers and their own employees, I will never buy a GM vehicle!

A lot of people stay because they have bills.

I stayed because I got comfortable and looking for a new job was a headache.

I'm glad I got walked out because GM paid for me to sit at home for a month and play video games.
