OCI Status in the Market

OCI uptake is not healthy and is only happening at a tiny fraction of projections. This is putting MASSIVE pressure on Dee Jay and his management team to deliver. It is. It happening and thus the layoffs are happening as a result.

Plenty of people in Seattle office are overpaid ex-AWS and MSFT people who did very little while at those companies. Grungy millennials with few skills who are over-rated and demanded (and got) double and triple the pay they were worth.

The chickens are coming home to roost as these folks are under-delivering and management is figuring out how badly they messed up hiring all of these gold-rush-diggers. Now the worthless ones who contribute little are getting axed, along with the worthless Dyn team in New Hampshire.

As was said the rats are scurrying around the deck trying to maintain and find new homes, but most won’t. Many will return to their old homes at AWS and MSFT to s--- off of those te ats. They will manage there for awhile because their worthlessness will be disguised by the growth of those companies.

Ultimately Oracle will be better off without many of these worthless, overpaid coddles millennials who don’t do squat.

Just take a look at the Seattle office. Empty at 9 AM, and empty again at 3:30 or 4 PM. These worthless code monkeys don’t even bother to put in a half-day’s work, yet are making $250K+ and options.

Good riddance. It’s all Dee Jay’s and CM’s and Vee Nay’s fault !!

Anyone who lets TK off the hook for the ORCL cloud catastrophe is seriously mistaken. It was under his watch that the competition was slowly building out their services while he fumbled around with middleware and cr-p acquisitions.

AWS and Azure development teams are mostly millennial. Age group demographics are not the issue, leadership is.

I thought it was arrogant when ORCL when out of their way to publicly announce their Seattle hiring spree a few years ago. They thought that throwing a lot of money around up there would solve their marketplace position problem and get them into the game. Instead, like has been mentioned, they didn't get the best of talent and alienated the rest of the development groups in the company.

Spot on observations about treating customers like garbage, and also hiring second and third rate (underperforming) employers out of MS and Amazon at double and triple the salaries they should be making.

Yes those smelly, hoody wearing, awkward, bearded (both men and women) Millenial geeks are a huge part of the problem. Namely because they had to work hard in their former jobs at MS and AMZ, and now get paid double and triple for doing 1/3 to 1/2 the work they did prior to coming to OCI.

If they worked harder then OCI would be making more progress and gaining ground on its competitors.

So yes, I do agree with the OP that these hundreds of overpaid and underworked Millenials staffing the Seattle office are a huge part of the problem.

Turd and SC are equally to blame — not even a single atom of innovation from them. Only financial trickery and gaming to prop up their salaries. Turd’s playbook is well known from HP and NCR, as he essentially drove both of those companies into the ground.

Employees slashed Turd’s tires at NCR. At HP his first act was to create a fenced executive parking area at HP HQ so that tank and file couldn’t access his car and plant a bomb on it. He is whisked into Oracle buildings so that there is minimal human/employee contact so that he cannot be ridiculed. He has minimum two armed bodyguards with him at all times when in public, often more with a Secret Service style “advance team” to check out where he will be to ensure he will not be accosted/assaulted.

TK had none of this. ZERO.

There is a bad combination of things happening at Oracle right now. It is going to take a Satya-level change in leadership to even hope and pray that Oracle can recover from its death spiral that has accelerated.

Dee Jay and his legion of Bearded, odorous Millenials cannot and will not save Oracle from the blight of Turd, SC and Grandpa.

When you’re late to the game, as oracle was with cloud, and desperate to try to catch up, you rarely get to hire the best people because they’re locked up by the leading companies with golden handcuffs, so you’re left hiring people who are less good, which of course doesn’t help you catch up to the leaders. That’s the story of the sinking ship Oracle - sayonara (which ironically is the name of a yacht once owned by LE)

Also, for the longest time, it was the ONLY thing out there, too. In the late 80's it took me two weeks to install Oracle on an IBM. TWO WEEKS. it kept crashing the system. But we stayed with it because that was all we had.

Don't forget treating customers like s--t. We could do that when our product was really the best thing out there. But it's not any more. And customers don't want to use our cloud because they don't trust us after how we've treated them.

Wow bitter about millennials much?

OCI will fail, but not because of DJ or the millennial dev teams. They're actually building a pretty good product, but they're late to market and cannot possibly catch-up to the scale or breadth of AWS, Azure or Google. Those guys aren't standing still waiting for others to catch-up.

The failure is because of corporate strategy at the highest level. Mocking cloud until it was too late, faking cloud when they realized their mistake, refusing to invest in infrastructure to this day ("if they come we will build it"), and constantly changing strategy because of short-term thinking.
