Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

LE coming back to save the Cloud

When Thomas Kurian, a high-profile former Oracle executive, left the software company last September, his peers at the database software company expected Oracle to replace him.

But Larry Ellison, Oracle’s co-founder and chief technology officer, had other plans. Mr. Kurian had been leading Oracle’s response to a growing threat from Amazon, which offers online alternatives to Oracle’s database products and other software. In a meeting shortly after the departure of Mr. Kurian, Mr. Ellison surprised his inner circle by saying he was excited to personally take over the duties of the former product development leader, according to a former Oracle employee with direct knowledge of his comments.

Almost 42 years after he helped create Oracle, Mr. Ellison, 74, has entered a late-career act unlike that of any of his contemporaries. While many of the tech industry’s founding fathers have moved on to full-time philanthropy (Microsoft’s Bill Gates) or died (Apple’s Steve Jobs, Intel’s Andy Grove), Mr. Ellison has rolled up his sleeves and hopped into the trenches of product development. This account is based on interviews with more than two dozen former Oracle employees and people close to the company.

Maybe LE is superhuman. Hard to believe the last 24 hours.

Read this next to last paragraph.

LE made over $4b today. Could be that being a database company is not bad.

Too bad the guy who thought of it and published in 1970 probably never even got a thank you.

The dog and pony show of the EOY investor conference has to have some bull to spin around. I like the dumpster fire analogy. Notice our buddy Mark never recants, nor do any question previous quotes which are bold faced lies.

You’re right, however, don’t forget that the only reason MH is at Oracle is because LE hires him. LE also defended MH in a WSJ editorial after the HP BoD fired MH. And, of course, MH and LE are now best tennis buddies. They chances of grandpa firing MH are unfortunately zero.

LE needs to remove MH immediately. Don't treat customers the way NCR did. Put SC back in the role pre-2010. How do you restore a positive customer experience and goodwill destroyed by MH? Viable Cloud computing alternative in between Azure and AWS that services the market place differently. Rebuild and restore the premise software business. As there are workloads in certain business categories that don't scale for running in a cloud computing or storage environment.

LE to replace TK?

Seams like an appropriate replacement.

Oh, yeah, Tesla is doing so great these days, LE definitely needs to pick somethings up from Musk and bring them to oracle - that will show them: AWS, MSFT, SFDC, etc.

You F:ing dingbat @1urv!

I take LE any day over TK.

Hopefully LE can pick up a few things from Musk.

Just a dumpster fire to distract from the real issues, including the complete and total lack of growth, no competitive cloud offerings, and two useless and grotesquely overpaid CEOs. Grandpa rushing to distract and confuse. LMAO!

"LE coming back to save the cloud"

LOL, He doesn't even know what the "cloud" is!

Several years ago when he became CTO, people thought he would save Oracle. Didn't happen, did it? Won't happen now either. He's a fake part-time CTO. I still think he took that title just so he could do the $4 billion deal with NetSuite and look like he was not involved in the decision. Selling his own company to himself.

@ZxEgkvB-1xuo And Jobs was no saint either, actually if it was not for his ego he could still be alive. But LE is couple of orders of magnitude beyond that as far as ego goes...

this is all noise and cover. LE comes back to fill the gap after TK's departure.... Really? TK resigned 9 months ago people. This is Oracle's standard playbook....ALL SIZZLE NO STEAK.

Not one, but TWO CEOs making $100 million each a YEAR, and yet LE needs to come back to ‘save’ the company. WHAT AN UNMITIGATED Sh--SHOW!

And then a hero comes along

With the strength to carry on

....

Except LE is no hero, senile grandpa who royally screwed up, has hired and tolerated execs who have destroyed the company, has wasted money on share buybacks rather than invested in technology, etc, etc, etc

No, LE is one of the 3 stooges here and very much part of the problem.

Comical and dysfunctional but that’s what egomaniacs like LE do. Rather than handing the reigns to somebody competent he’s now going to run to company into the ground with the help of his loyal helpers SC and MH. Oracle is cursed!

LE was the one that screwed it up in the first place. He is unbelievably arrogant to think that he will show up on a part-time basis and just tweak a couple of things and all will be fixed.

Stage 4 in the list of oracle's demise applies. Too little, too late and LE still is living in denial of reality.

The fact that they had to make up this fairy tale right before the year end earnings call tells you ally you need to know how terrible the financials are going to be when they report. Talk about covering up a pile of sh-- with a pile of garbage. Talk about being desperate!

LE is the problem not the solution! Never order that he’s the one who promoted TK and hired and promoted SC and MH. Grandpa should have retired and ha see over the reigns to a single competent CEO a long time ago, but he’s ego won’t let him. So now hey back to k--l off the company once and for all. ABANDON SHIP!

Looks like LE is paying attention. Maybe he sees ... or will see a problem or two inside Oracle, perhaps the cloud strategy needs to be revisited.
