Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

I was 50 when I was laid off after 25 years. I am in the DFW area and I landed in 4 months with more money (but less vacation time). The biggest thing I see are resume issues. You need to translate your knowledge to outside Xerox terms. There are a bunch of Linkec In learning topics on creating effective resumes as well as a ton of other courses. I spent 2 to 3 days at the unemployment office filling out applications and getting to know the staff so when they were engaged about a job I was the one they thought of. ATS systems are a new concept since most of us joined Xerox. Understand how to update resumes with key words to get your resume at the top of the stack. Network. Network. Network. Get out there...develop your 3 minute speech... name, one sentance background (job title if it makes sense outside Xerox and industry), what you are looking for and what makes you unique. Then ask...is there someone you think I should talk to? You'll be amazed at what doors can be opened. Getting a job is a full time job and you have to be an active participant. It's all about networking and being smart in how you get the job done. Do not dwell on the reason you are there when talking to people, it happened and you did nothing wrong. Xerox gave us a lot of good skills. Use them and go sell yourself!

30 years at one company, and I too planned on retiring here. My core has been torn apart and I am having my first interview this week.
I will take less to have my piece of mind back on my way to retirement.

• Look at a layoff or HCL rebadge as an opportunity for you to move up.
• Finding your next job is now your 1st priority and you need to treat it like another job.
• Your existing customers are great sources for leads and possibly even your next workplace!
• This is the best job market in many years, take advantage of it!

I was rebadged and am now employed at one of my clients making %30 more, better health insurance and comparable vacation and 401k benefits.

I hear you and feel the same way, mid fifties, thought I would retire from this job but now with HCL here up our a– trying to s— all the info out of us it's mentally draining, I need to get out, I started looking over this past weekend, I hope by the Fall I will land something, I know in my heart I can't stay, I have also been looking at training in other fields too, best of luck to you!!

I'm from the 2018 layoff wave. Here are some thoughts and encouragement!

• It has taken many of our colleagues 6 months or more to land a job, often with less pay, but generally with more promising futures, so take heart!
• Take advantage of any program Xerox offers you even (and especially) if you don't know what job you're looking for. It will be free to you (and why not spend Xerox money!)
• Look for state and local programs through unemployment. For example, the Rochester, New York area has some very good ones through the unemployment office.
• Also, force yourself to participate in any support group you can find, through a community center, library, church, etc., even if you initially feel resistant. The shared experience will be helpful to you.
• Even my primary care offered up a counselor, which she routinely does with her laid-off patients, knowing what a challenge coping can be.
• You are not too old! Read about getting hired on the AARP website, for example, or retirement sites, which are encouraging people to work past full retirement, up to 70.

Hang in there, your family, friends and current and former coworkers are there for you!

I came back from other employment with the plan to retire from my XBS core this time. However, don't be too hard on yourself. This was out of our control. This phase is hard and s— tremendously but keep grinding til your next opportunity arrives, I'm certain the best is yet to come! Just not in the form we planned on.

You are far from alone in that boat. I planned to work at my core until retirement.
