SPIFFs and Bounties are just acknowledgement that Sales teams are systemically gaming the forecast process.

You’re clearly not a Cisco salesperson. SPIFFs and bounties serve several functions, including (but not limited to):

  • jump-starting new product insertion
  • accelerating Next Q’s revenue
  • focusing on competitive displacement

It is almost impossible to game the system with SPIFFs, as we have no advanced knowledge of the SPIFF specifics, and the qualifications are usually written in a way that makes the SPIFF very difficult to achieve.

All of that said, I was also told SPIFFs are gone, Because GE doesn’t believe in them.

SPIFFs are not gone. The fact of the matter is that Sales routinely loads BS to SFDC with backloaded deals and then miraculously pulls them in or converts upside to commit and then books the target deal just in time to qualify for the SPIFF flavor of the month. Why the hell you do you need a SPIFF to just do your damn job? Oh, for an extra 2500 I can convince the customer to write a PO 2-3 weeks earlier than planned.....what a load of c-ap. SPIFFs and Bounties are just acknowledgement that Sales teams are systemically gaming the forecast process.

The new pay mix s—s! We are now effectively capped, with less leverage. Also jamming the 15% RO component in there really stinks. SPIFFs are gone. KSOs are gone.

There’s places where I can make more money for sure now.
