Or at least that’s the case at my organization. Only the people close to retirement are still there nd a few folks that can’t get a job at other companies. Given that older folks are the first ones on the chopping block when layoffs arriving, it all points out to only two possibilities that could unfold, outsourcing or shutdowns of certain departments.

Obviously by "having a choice" what was meant was that you don't have a choice of finding another job. Obviously anybody could quit the job. You sound pretty insecure to be honest.
I have a choice. I could retire with my millions or keep my six figure job until they lay me off with a nice package. Hey maybe thats why they don’t lay me off, I actually know what I am doing and am happy doing it. Who really needs a job at my age anyway?
You may like your job but lets go back to the original title. "Anybody that had a choice already left"
If you are close to retirement lets not pretend you actually have a choice. Nobody else is going to hire you and pay you what BNY is paying you right now.
We have 78 year old developer, not sure he will retire soon
I actually like my job and they keep NOT laying me off. I think that we people close to retirement are worth keeping because we are experienced and will soon leave WITHOUT a package. So my plan is to work here until they lay me off. Should be interesting.
