Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Why are there people who think they are safe?

Have they not been paying attention?

I was talking to a coworker who was completely unfazed by all the layoffs around us, because - and I quote - he knows his years and experience make him too valuable to lose. And this is after we've lost hundreds of our most experienced and knowledgeable people to layoffs.

I guess some people like to live with their heads firmly stuck in the sand...

No one is safe! We are all expendable at any moment. BNY doesn’t give a rats a..... about anyone! This is the worst it’s ever been where I am. Find a way out if you can as soon as you can. I’m old and don’t have that option. A layoff for me would be a blessing! Good luck all!

I keep seeing people say get a job elsewhere. We’ll sure, okay it’s easy for some but it depends on your location & pay range. If your in NY or 50-60k I’m sure it is easy or easier.
Bottom line is just because this imbecile is a complete disaster, good folks who were comfortable & knowledgeable have a right to be p*ssed off

There are tons of "lifers" at the bank. I've never seen the likes of it anywhere else on 'Wall Street'. Cutting the high paying, avg/low performers only makes sense. The problem is Charlie keeps adding senior staff that haven't added any discernable value. It'll be interesting to see how the next several quarters go.

“We’re far from done here,” he said. He described the process as a multi-year journey and said there are “meaningful opportunities” to pare expenses “beyond what we actually even think about at this point.”

Why take any drastic action now? If you have the years to get SUB for several months, there will be plenty of time to job search if / when it happens

So, he feels safe and is staying. That makes some sense.

But why are you still here if you DON’T feel safe? Maybe time for you to move on to a better place, so you can be secure, appreciated, and get some peace.

That worked for me!

Or maybe I have NEVER been laid off from anywhere I have worked, so have confidence that I am smart, hardworking, cooperate with everyone, and seem to be valuable to an organization. But I know other people - just like me - that have been laid off. And they are all re-employed and seem to be doing fine.

My head is not in the sand. Time will tell if I get laid off here. YOU don’t need to worry about ME, just take care of yourself.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Good luck to us all!
