Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

What are the chances Dell will try to keep me?

I've gotten a job offer, but I like working at Dell. The pay is higher than here, though, so it's good incentive to move on.

I was wondering, what are the chances Dell will try to keep me if I tell them I'm leaving but I'd be willing to stay if they matched the offered sum?

Has anybody had any experience with this?

They might match the offer if your job is critical and there is no replacement. In the background though they'll be doing everything to train your replacement in a cheaper location and/or on a lower pay. Then you are out with the next redundancy wave.

Run as fast as you can. Dell is a soul crushing place. Dell has no loyalty. You can be a fantastic award winning employee and they'll ship your job to Bangalore grinning all the time. Was there for 7 years and they gutted our department.

Leave and don't look back. Stay too long at Dell and from my experience if your in sales you get tainted. You lose your edge and are looked at as not being a major player by other firms like a Cisco, Juniper, Amazon etc. Doesn't mean you can't get hired just that you will have a steeper slope to climb as frankly most of the Dell sales force is lackluster and beaten into passive lambs. If you thought about leaving you had reasons, don't let money hold you back. Dell is NOT a secure job unless you know someone who can protect you as many have. You need a high level rabbi to survive but that doesn't mean you will be happy. I ve chased bucks and I ve chosen to pass up on opportunity that in hindsight would have been better for me as a person. Never again. Remember despite the Dell BS they have ZERO care or loyalty to you. Open you mouth now and they will let you go the first chance they get.

I was there for just under 9 years, they tried to keep me. I'd pretty much made up my mind though, if it was an issue that more money or a promotion would have solved, I would have stayed.

Depends. I was in Mid-Range Storage, and, due to what I perceive as utter incompetence in upper management, there was no attempt to keep me. Since the EMC purchase there has been a constant effort to reduce costs, so if you happen to help by walking out the door yourself, so much the better. I don't see this changing until Trident finally fails in so spectacular fashion but they have no alternative than to k–l it...which will set off a string of large scale layoffs.

You may set yourself up for the next layoff if you decide to stay after giving your notice. You made it clear that you were willing to leave. Just makes their choice much easier.

I have been in this situation. Why are you looking to leave? If you considered the new offer then most likely you had reasons to consider it. More money from Dell wouldn't change that. I am not advocating for you to leave or stay. Just know that whatever made you look, unless it was money, won't change with the pay increase.
