Ford out of Pocket Costs for Out of Network Healthcare

A little nervous to post this as I really hope this is anonymous and doesn't jeopardize my employment here but need to say something if this effected someone else.

Ford being self insured has a direct incentive to keep healthcare costs down and I have run into a situation with them that has effected myself and a few others employed here.

If you need some sort of specialized treatment or care that is not provided by a Ford in-network doctor, forcing you to go out of network, ford will tell you you need to pay the much higher out of network costs even if you get a referral from an in network doctor saying the treatment is needed.

All I will say is do your homework.......

Meanwhile, healthcare stocks are doing fantastic!!! What a joke, we are getting screwed so bad, I guess unless you own a lot of healthcare stocks / ETFs.

Yeah, I’ve been bit once or twice on this little factoid. However, it was worse in 2018 when they got rid of all HMO’s and you had to open a HSA account....yeah, they gave you 1k to start the account, but that year I ran into an issue with carpal tunnel and ran up a 5k PT tab before they paid for it....talk about sticker shock. Would have been nice if they would have allowed us some time to start a HSA rather then springing it in us in November.

So, yes, buyer beware - always ask around, keep in network as much as possible, oh and also offer drs cash and usually they give you a nice discount.

Not sure why you just discovered this. Standard practice during the 30 years I was at Ford.
