Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Word of Advice

If you’re posting on this site just remember the IP address is easily tracked back to the user. If you’re using a company device watch your back. If you see someone approaching with a shoe box you better think quick because the next move is to clean out your belongings and get escorted out the door.

The site admins have access to IP addresses, just like every other website on the internet ever.

An IP address can be easily changed (especially for Windows OS) and blocked using a VPN. There is no conspiracy by UP to obtain them.

UP knows everyone hates working there and posts about it here. They also don't care.

If you use a company device for anything other than UP business then oh well you already knew they could monitor your usage. For everyone else using a personal device you have nothing to be concerned about.

Why would UP ask TheLayoff for IP addresses for people posting from company computers, which they would never hand over anyway? They already have the ability to monitor outbound network traffic.

you guys do realize that thelayoff.com has many companies listed on it not just UP. They aren't in cahoots with UP. And they aren't giving your IP address to anyone at UP so they can fire you for having the audacity to discuss the company. if you do something very stupid and irresponsible like threatening an individual with physical harm, then they most likely would turn over your IP address to the police and any relevant authority.

@1owp: the site admins (not the other users) are able determine your IP address. It is part of the reason why you can only up/downvote a comment once from any single device. You are anonymous to other users, not site admins. This applies to almost every website on the internet.

IP addresses are easily tracked back to every user of the internet everywhere, unless someone happens to be using Tor or another deep web browser, which probably is not the case for the average railroader.

It's probably safe to say that anyone still working at UP is desensitized to threats of having their jobs terminated. Most are already looking for newjobs anyway.
