Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

GET OUT

I WAS a manager (last day yesterday) and things are NOT going to get better. See the light at the end of the tunnel and stop holding on things ARE not going to change for the better. Believe me when I say there is MUCH better out there

I walked away a year ago was very worried actually. I am glad I did and will never look or go back there. I am still in retail but am in a union and have all my benefits paid for medical, vision and dental. I make a little less but free benefits and union worked raises which are quite plentifull offset it.

I was a manager in a club where the club manager had 2 red books open on him for favoritism and s-xiest comments. A manager that showed up whenever he wanted and even went MIA for 3 days and nothing happened and a manger that slept in the fresh office. Investigation happened and then retaliation started

Don't make fun of People that are scared to make a move. The company has told them no one else will have you. They are so insecure and scared. Don't call them stupid. Just remember America gives you so many possibilities. You never no you might be making pizza this year and next year you could be a Congressman tearing down this wonderful country. The possibilities are endless.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I live in a state with alot of transplants from other states who all came here to get a job.

Every company out there is on the chop board. I worked at a high tech company that had 2 campus where I live. Then one day we were told no raises for 5 years but we could have at least 10 hours of overtime every week. Then 6 months later one of the campus was closed and shuttered up. Everyone at that campus was told on a Friday to pack and then move to the other campus by Monday. I went from working in a cubicle of 4 to a cubicle of 12 and still no raises. The last I heard some employees were giving an opportunity to train overseas. The other campus is now cut in half and is part of a strip mall. Another former employee told me they were not doing alot of the "high tech" stuff since it went to Dell and that they were mainly processing paperwork for a big pharma company.

I left before the move and went to a manufacturing plant that was unionized. I was told I was a perfect fit being prior military and all. 2 years later the city agreed to build a new plant, however it was kept under wraps that a foreign entity was buying both plants and financing the new one. The union went into negations and agreed to a contract under the old plant and when they found out about the new plant and owners a bunch of letters went out. The letters told all those who were no longer working at the plant their benefits were being cut. No more medical and in many cases no more monthly checks, per the new contract a limit on payouts had been set and if you did not or do not agree to paying dues again your union retirement benefits were in jeopardy.

Yeah retail can be a bit of an unstable job but unless you have a nest egg that will cover all of your expenses until you are 99 then you kind of need to work. If you have that golden nest egg then what do you care what a bunch of people who you will probably never meet in life do with their lives?

@1kqc then go somewhere that there are more jobs. Small town living will keep anyone in poverty. And don't come back with, not everyone can just move. Yes they can! If your area has a Sam's club then it's big enough to have other jobs. What are you going to do when they close your club? Because they will. The direction is to close more clubs and turn a lot into Sam's club now stores. So when yours closes are you going to just sit there and not do anything because there aren't any abundance of jobs? Quit with the excuses. Get out there and do something about it. It is 100% possible.

Congratulations OP. If they (mgrs) can't see what's happening, they are truely in denial.

Instead of being so insulting towards people, why doesn't the manager whose original post started this conversation be a bit more informative as to what is going to happen. What really bothers me about this blog is that people dangle information, never giving the entire story. Not everyone lives in an area where there is an abundance of jobs. In addition to that, how sad it is to lose your longtime associates who have so much knowledge. Personally I am not miserable. I like my job, my co-workers and most of the management team. Try to be kind...Try to smile more and be happy. Quit with all the negatives. It will put you all in an early grave.

@1enm then look for something! Quit crying like there are absolutely no options. There are. Go out and find them. Yes it's scary to jump into something else, but that's a part of life. You get nowhere if you don't take a chance, and Sam's is getting to be the bottom of the barrel of nowhere. If someone is in an abusive relationship and says they can't leave, do you agree with them or do you pep talk them and tell them their options? We all have the luxury of getting out there and starting over. An excuse is just that, only an excuse.

It’s not always easy to walk away from what you consider part of your life. Don’t judge or criticize until you know the reason. Som of us are all we have and can’t just leave without something else. Some of us don’t have that luxury. Just sayin

They're comfortable being miserable. Constant complaining but doing nothing about it. They don't have the desire to learn anything else which is a sign of laziness. It's irrational thinking that will end with them having nothing.

I love the urgency in the delivery of the message when somebody realizes that everything they previously thought they knew was a lie.

God bless you brother. You made it!

I wish it was that easy to get through to them. They are so scared and some are just plain stupid. They would rather be pushed out then cry and wonder what to do. I do not know a single person that left who is not extremely happier. They have been told over and over and over. Not sure what the lightbulb moment will be for them. Only thing I do know is that when they do finally get out they will all regret not doing it sooner. Every single one.
