Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

The CEOs of nearly 200 companies just said shareholder value is no longer their main objective

Wonder if HON is on the list? .......nah.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/08/19/the-ceos-of-nearly-two-hundred-companies-say-shareholder-value-is-no-longer-their-main-objective.html

"Investing in employees, delivering value to customers, dealing ethically with suppliers and supporting outside communities are now at the forefront of American business goals."

"Investing in our employees. This starts with compensating them fairly and providing important benefits. It also includes supporting them through training and education that help develop new skills for a rapidly changing world. We foster diversity and inclusion, dignity and respect."

Nah

If there is a better indicator of a pending down-turn in the US stock market, I do not know what it is. These boys know the economic indicators better than economics experts, since the experts must rely on the data business' give them, and businesses are apparently sitting on some data that has them unsettled.

Stock price/valuation is not just driven by expectations of performance, but are sometimes simply driven down by sentiment, and I suspect that enthusiasm for stocks may be on the wane for now.

It’s a clever way to cover their asses with stockholders if they miss a quarter, just claim they were doing other generous things with the money.

Obviously this statement is an empty promise to make each one of them feel better about themselves.

They probably think they are already fairly compensating and treating their employees. If they don't they will add more weekly games contests or some trivial thing instead of restoring the pension increases or something of real value to the employee. I doubt anything will come of it in my personal opinion. If nothing does, I will be leaving in the next year.

DA actually did sign the statement. I wish it was more than an empty promise but nothing is going to change as long as bonuses remain tied to stock performance.

Honeywell will, as usual, be late to the party. Only then will they will realize all of those years of experience have walked out the door.

They’ll drop it to 98% and call it good.

Irony: the companies in The Business Roundtable probably control 99% of the worldwide wealth. 😀

I'll believe it when I see it, and I ain't holding my breath. Until then it is just more self-serving BS.

Honeywell is listed as one of the companies, and Darius appears on the Roundtable website. Somebody should make a list of the 12 Behaviors of a Responsible and Ethical Corporation and turn it into a dull video that he has to sit through as a condition of continued employment. Multiple choice quiz at the end.

Why are you a shareholder if this is what you believe? Greed?

Yeah, I just don't see DA/TM or their overpaid VP lackeys signing up to this. I'm no longer an HI employee but I'm still a shareholder and I'd rather see a company I own shares in take care of its employees in especially in the nation they're incorporated in and deal ethically with customers and suppliers. The HI of yesterday did that and succeeded while the HI of today has no concept of it and that's why they're spiraling down the drain.
