Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford employees “working from home”

Ford could improve productivity by 20 to 40% but eliminating “work from home” day’s. My neighbor is in the “Smart Mobility” group which is losing hundreds of millions of dollars per quarter. He supposedly works from home every Friday, but I’ve watched him playing with his kid and power washing his patio on Fridays. It really irritates me because I own stock in this company that is worth a lot less than what I paid for it. Wake up, Ford, and make your employees give a full day of work for their overly generous salaries!

maybe the world doesn't need more id–ts like you who think productivity is based on showing up to work and if you were smart you'd not invest in automotive stock especially big 3. Maybe your neighbor has to answer calls at night because it's a global company or he provides more value than just seating on his a– in front of PC for 8 hours.

Oh you should be in the office, watching people put puzzles together. Yes the company actually pays people to openly put puzzles together. All in the name of accelerating creativity. How about a big community hubbly-bubbly pipe. I hear smoking duubies makes one more creative too.

Slackers will slack at the office too! LOL Working from home has nothing to do with it.

I worked in several groups at Ford. Some groups were predominately hard workers with some slackers 90-10 Some groups were predominately slackers with a few hard workers carrying the group 90-10. The difference was the supervisor and manager. When they exhibited bad behaviors and rewarded people for the same, slackers and politicians were the majority. When leaders actually focused on getting things done right, hard workers were in the majority.
My experience was that the hard working groups were in the minority at Ford. This reflects the leadership.

A large reason Mobility and data analytics get a bad rap is that they both rapidly created a massive organization with a “snobbish” Leadership attitude of “we are better and more important than others” , diverted the resources from the groups actually keeping the company running, causing them to work 80 hour work weeks while getting paid for 40, all the while neither Mobility or data analytics delivered on any promised deliverables (yes, there were many paper deliveries and press releases that alas were smoke and mirrors). Since these two areas are Hackett’s darlings, their “achievements” are built up, and other’s achievements and ideas are swept under the rug.

So yeah, people bag on Mobility and data analytics as we see the lack of direction, gross overstaffing and lack of work ethic in the organizations. Everyone in software/hardware engineering knows that a small highly skilled and experienced team outperforms a massive inexperienced team every time. Everyone also knows that you start small and slowly grow an organization as you need to, filling positions only with great people. That is not what happened and so another Ford flop. Another organization will be built to replace the flopped Mobility and data analytics organizations and there will be some new buzzwords and fanfare ,,,,,, and the process will repeat. This is the story of Ford

I don’t think anyone is blaming the slackers for the current state of affairs. It is fair to speculate about why we saw so many hard working and productive people walked out if there are still slackers managing to skate along. I’m trusting that the posts about slackers are accurate because honestly most of the people I have worked with are not slackers.

I have worked from home on occasion, mainly to catch up, no interruptions help. I think it can work for most people. Don't downplay other slacker's, l mean if you want to down play anything look up your CEO's salary, along with the board of directors. While they make millions and millions a year, and then lay you off, you beat up a guy goofing off. Lol. I understand the company owes you nothing, but the least they could do is save a rainy day fund for the employees. The CEOs could make 3 or 5 million a year and put the other 15 or 25 million into an investment account to hold over the employees during a layoff. BUT NOPE! I gotta have it all is the mantra. Look of Honda CEO salary.

This is frustrating to read. I worked from home responsibly because I appreciated the privilege. I had heavy workload and the days that I worked from home were more productive because the couple hours I would have spent driving were spent working. I gave them a 10 or 11 hour day on my WFH days. Maybe I was the crazy one because my job was “eliminated” and these people still have a job.

It's because many people just don't do anything, except kiss enough bottom to stay employed. People who have actual work to do can be productive at home. People like your neighbor are the type of people who don't do anything while they are in the building either. I have people in my building that only take personal calls and surf the web all day while responding to approximately 2-5 emails a day. FYI this happens at every large company. If you think this is a Ford only problem then you are truly naive.

The new “Generation” is actually pushing for more Telecommute days. I believe the concept was good to promote work-life balance. However, it seemed to have turned into an obligation and expectation. Most employees choose Monday’s & Friday’s. In addition employees taking the day before a vacation or holiday is also on the rise.

Work from home is ghost employees.I have seen heard and watched all the stories.Working from the office is mostly productive, except for all the internet surfing going on.put an end to that....Most workers look past the employees that abuse the situations and keep performing .If management pulled everyone into the office to work 40 hr weeks, then they would see how many people including themselves are actually needed to complete a program.Time to own your job.Or get out probably too late

I’m not surprised, I come into the office and surf the internet and take walks. This is a slow time of the year in between programs.

Reason your neighbor is slacking off is because the "Smart Mobility" group is a joke. Many work from home responsibly and often for much longer hours than if they were in the office. Your neighbor likely is goofing off when they go into the office too as most of the time the "Smart Mobility" people sit around doing relatively nothing.
