Age discrimination is happening and is at its peak. They might not care to admit it, the law and the institutions may not react to it, but it’s happening, we all know that? What happens when they run out of older folks to cut? What will be the next criteria for cuts? Just curious

In my department just few below 30 was lay offed. Majority is 40+
They will replace with younger in an offshore market
I was let go and I just turned 29. My other colleagues ages range between 29-50. In your paperwork, they tell you the age, title, and salary grade of everyone in your department who was laid off.

I keep asking to be laid off but they don’t do it, maybe because I am over 60.
Uh, that’s the point. They will hire young people: enthusiastic, educated in modern methods, and cheap.
I am in 60s and others in my department also 60s and even 70s. We all enjoy our work and hoped to stay until we retire. (Win/win for BNY because they need all the wisdom they can get, although they never listen to us.) The people laid off from our dept were mostly younger. We envy them the paid vacation before they move on. We probably won’t get that, lucky us.
Correct all age groups were let go. I heard they want the company more appealing to young people. At some point they will look to hire young people coming out of college for dirt cheap.
It’s not only older people. There were several people in my department that were between 30 and 45 let go.
