Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Should we fear of a mass wave of layoffs?

I ask that, in light of the talk that there will be no VSP offered this year, and that we can’t expect to see any sort of a buyout any time soon. If that, in fact, is the case should we fear from a wave off mass involuntary layoffs this year, when all points to that the leadership is planning to lower headcount and to outsource some more?

To the OP... why did you think there even "might" be another VSP thus year?
The Union might get an EISP, as they are about due. And it's about the only way to get "some" of the old timers to leave. But another VSP for management anytime soon is very unlikely, as the last one was in 2003... 15yrs prior to the one in 2018. Regular RIF's on the other hand will likely continue across various groups as they always have. Same old sh_t, different day.

Best thing you can do is to take advantage of available training & paid tuition to better yourself.
Take your future into your own hands while VZ is still willing to pay for it.

Takes lots of training, Openstack, Python, ansible,AWS. These are all valuable skill sets to have right now. If you have these under your belt and get Rifd, you’ll have a new job in no time.

@2thk I find it amusing that they are looking to outsource even more to Infosys. That company is still hiring to support the first wave of apps and has not yet assumed full responsibility in many areas. They are failing. Miserably.

@10D8PWHv-2pqn only think worse that "not being laid off" is "being laid off". If you want better to leave by yourself or be fully be prepared and leave when offered a package

Layoffs are there for sure an announcement may come in OCTOBER last week. Right now the debate is on how much to move to Infosys and what projects to keep and what should be the employee and vendor ratio...

Verizon to cut $10B by 2021 and current savings realized $4B. I see EISP and RIFs in the future.

Are you kidding? You all are on here every day begging for your EISP. Maybe get back to work or pretending to work like usual.

Union does not "BEG" for an EISP.

It is a bargained for benefit.

Maybe you should have joined the Union.

There I REALLY fixed it.

@jwf- Union beg for EISP, which is a drop in their bucket of meager existence.

There I fixed it for ya. You're welcome.

Fear of Layoffs is for non-union. Union employees get EISP, which is a shower of unplanned-for $$$$.

Don't fear. Just prepare for when it does happen. Save money. Pad the resume. Network.

I wouldn't say there will be mass layoffs, but there will always be pockets of layoffs and/or outsourcing, somewhere. The next big exodus will be in the associate ranks, if/when they get their EISP.
