Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

West Colton

There has been a lot of rumbling among the upper echelons of this company. Word has finally come down, the layoffs are over, and we are now the model to which all yards shall follow. Congratulations to West Colton, your blood sweat and tears and willingness to comply with these changes have now made you #1 in the system.

Don’t get comfortable with the credit you get in the KPI. You all know well that there is no way a coupler height measurement takes 10min. You all know as well that a hose height adjustment and bending a cotter key does not take 8min. The allowances are getting reviewed, and will be normalized in the next few weeks.

If you all would know the AAR manual (as you should), and billable repairs maybe so many cuts wouldn’t have been done. Know your damn job and capture every bit of billing possible! Don’t change sh– and not bill for it, y’all are k–ling me complaining about this. I’m pretty sure the name of the game is justifying our jobs, do it! It’s not lying, it’s taking the 15 seconds to measure sh– and/or adjusting it/bending it when needed (more time..). Stop complaining and do your job! Carmen 101

The KPI scorecard is really another tool for management to see where the most work is being done, and where more cuts can be made. They will cut the lowest numbers in an effort to increase the higher performing ones. Think about it. Why would they all of a sudden start looking at that? Sorry folks but more cuts are coming.

I have broke down the repairs in the KPI scorecard at several locations who are putting up big productivity numbers, and you know what? Lies. All lies. When I total trace a car that was bad ordered for ES, and dig out what the car was actually bad ordered for, and it is a broken crossover board, and then look at the car's repairs in KPI and see that it had a half dozen non-billable labor items in addition to the crossover board, I call BS because every car that I look at that has been repaired and released from bad order status at that same location has the same non-billable labor items against the car. You can't tell me that every car needed a cotter key bent, and both couplerheights measured and then their carriers lubed, and a handhold straightened. I call BS. It's deceitful to bill like that and isn't doing anyone any justice. You're showing 2.2 hours for a .8 hour repair. LIES!!

Sure WCT may look to be out performing productivity wise but that’s just because they are. No other location can change as many EOC’s, Gears, Wheels along with all of the accident damage and light repairs. Of course there has been some furloughed and restructuring but the yard is a “model” because they work their asses off as Railroaders should these days. It’s not old UP or SP where you can get 2 hours of a– time. They are just animals over there getting the job done!

layoffs won't be done till, the upper echelons get there bounces $$$$$$$$$ and buy outs, to retire. that may take 2 years. so you that are still working, keep that chap stick in your pocket and hope you make it to the end. GOOD LUCK.

Hmmm......the upper echelons told you the layoffs are over, but didn't have the spine to tell you the layoffs were coming? That's textbook BS right there!
