Buying Ford, A/X plan

Are you all faithful Ford product owners?
Or what are you driving?
I feel like employee discounts are pretty tiny..

Yes the Company employee discounts don't guarantee the best deal.

I recently read that Subaru has the highest customer retention among all automotive companies. A good friend only buys Subarus and claims they don’t typically need repairs until somewhere around 250,000 miles, assuming of course that she takes care of routine maintenance. I’m familiar with her vehicles and know they still function and look great with that many miles. Certainly not something you’d be embarrassed to drive. That’s where I’m going for my next vehicle.

I was a faithful employee for 27 years (23 in management role). I took the retirement package in fall of 2018 and was able to keep a lease can until October 2019. We had a 2019 Flex but the build quality was poor compared to the last one. We decided not to buy the Flex and the new Explorer was still ramping up production.

My wife had always wanted a Subaru and was interested in the Ascent (rated 96 in Consumer Report). The fully loaded Ascent was $45k. Comparable Explorer was over $60k.

In the end, we purchased an Ascent with the buyout money. After all, a happy wife make a happy life. If she ever complains about the Ascent or something goes wrong, it will NEVER be my fault (priceless).

Was loyal Ford, now loyal Toyota.
YOur experience may be different.
All of our families Camry, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra and 4runners have been problem free well past 200,000 miles.

We now buy and refurbish older Ford, GM and Mercedes diesel work vans. Time is money and reliable work vehicles are important. The idea that one must trade in a work vehicle every 50k is a non starter for us. We have some older diesel vans with 400k+ still running strong. I wish Toyota would build a work van.

I was a faithful employee who purchased only Ford products. My next vehicle will likely be from a competitor because my new escape has had a lot of problems. My son needed a new car and he did not get a ford after seeing the issues I was having. In addition my neighbor got a better deal on his escape without any discounts than I did using my employee discount.
