Been watching this site for a few months now. Some funny stuff about the CEO and some serious stuff about layoffs and stock price. I am considering a job at SWN. Honest feedback expected. Hire on or move on? I can’t afford to be hired then laid off!

I was part of the original management team that took a $200 million dollar entity to one of $15 billion....current mgmt. is a total embarrassment... would not expect this Phoenix to rise from its ashes...Take care of your career
Who needs money to buy a motorhome when they have access to a private jet?
Oh boy. Got a funny feeling today that this Labor Day will be about execs making bonuses off the back of us hard working field guys who will get laid off so they can buy motorhomes and take luxury vacations
Layoffs are gonna happen. Just when.
Layoffs have to happen. Pricing are falling and costs aren't. Can't drill economic wells, but we and industry will still try - making matters worse. We justify this, but using anything but current prices in AFEs, etc. A "management view" of price, aka whatever price it takes to get to 1.3 pvi minimum.
Mueller was reluctant to hedge, but agreed to do so. Board refused to do it after we signed up for WV.
Way is a buffoon and is the Board's puppet (esp the Chair).
Way inebriated?? Brings to mind Christmas parties!
Jeez. I agree. The vibe is eery, and not sure I can handle it any longer. Way got inebriated last night at his school’s cupcake game, and he was especially P O’d that he lost a f—rting contest to Jimbo before the game.
Totally agree with last post. Weird vibe here in Spring office on a Friday before a holiday. Vibe feels layoffish
It’s not a matter of if, but when. Wake up people!!! Have you seen the price of natural gas? It’s been $2.20 and change. There is a HUGE glut of supply that only gets bigger with more wells put into production. Sure, prices will go up over the winter, but we’re not talking $4-5 gas. Those days are gone and not coming back anytime soon, if ever, barring some type of catastrophe.
We are victims of our own success. Companies need to budget for $2.50 gas or lower. Cut overheads costs (staff, rent, etc), drill and complete wells at lower costs.
Companies are dropping rigs. It’s not economical to drill a lot right now. So how do you think that is going to affect staffing? This industry has always been peaks and valleys. Staff up when good and fire people when bad.
Like I said, it’s. It a matter of IF, but WHEN. This is not just a SWN issue, but at all of the operators. CNX just laid off 70 people at their HQ last week. Range has laid off some folks this summer. Our competitors in the NE like Chesapeake and EQT will be following suit.
Can’t fall asleep thinking about layoffs. Will it really happen around the holidays or before? Wow. Thought we were past that. Survived every layoff this far bit deparment has grown so my longevity may not help
The directive was given a while ago. Don’t expect “bomb dropping” layoff events. Only strategic firings (with the silencer on). Slowly but surely Managers and overpaid deadweight will be eliminated with no severance offered. (I have confirmed this) Sleep with one eye open! Watch your back! If your Supervisor completely checks out on you, watch out! I seent it happen to three others so far!
Not the mole. Not Frank. Not Bs Not fake news. Information floating around today that layoffs are being looked at by EOY. Layoffs around holidays! A new low!
Giving the CEO of SWN an entrepreneur award is like giving a Cub Scout a war metal. The CEO has to wonder why, and feel insulted. It would make sense if SWN was better managed.
Non FAKE news
Mole report: “ No layoffs this week HOWEVER layoffs are on the horizon”. Further mole reports pending.
Have a nice day!
Is the SWN mole still around? He/she/it is more factual than MSNBC. Thats the only true source of up to date non nonsense layoff news.
An inside source says NO LAYOFFS this week.
A lot of the place is what we make of it. If you have conviction, I would say don't let others influence you. Been here for years and it is the first exec group that I see having respect for people and also focusing on the right stuff. Plus, our benefits are amazing.
Obvious answer for you is to know if your leader advocate wins big in the f—ting contest. If not, you’ll likely be laid off!
Obvious question for this thread then is will there be layoffs? Asking for me and my fellow employees!
Hold on. There is a betting pool on which employeees are going to be laid off. Did I read this right? Hahahahaha funny that our leadership passes gas in public and may clog a toilet after breakfast. For real betting on employees futures and layoffs? Where is the formula. R2!
This is not good folks. I previously worked for an outfit in which the executive leadership was so inept that the only thing that kept them engaged, sadly , was a f—ting contest amongst themselves. They would make on the spot bets, and even bet which employees shall be laid off. Sad, but true.
No one can say for certain. But with commodity prices staying low and a glut of natural gas supply, operators need to get skinny and keep the costs down to make a profit. CNX just laid off 10% of the work force. It’s not a matter of IF, but WHEN. Workforce reductions are coming.
That said, take the interview and the job of you have nothing better. Perhaps SWN will do the right thing and fire a bunch of lifers and trim the fat! We can’t keep doing the same thing and expect different results. Lay off a lot of management and promote younger folks from within. The millennials aka the shalennials at Rice Energy were successful. We can do the same at SWN. Fire most folks 40 and over and let’s get after it!
Consider SWN a dream and move on!
I follow this site daily so is that wrong cuz my paycheck says SWN. True story. Just walked to elevator bank behind our CEO. Now this may get me added to the next layoffs but he I kid you not crop dusted myself and two others.
I’ll put it this way - with no fake news or childish rubbish. I have so much confidence in our leader, that I just bought a new $75,000 truck! We’re here to stay and our jobs (especially Land) are critical, and therefore, no layoffs! This place is rock solid!
Real feedback (too much fake news and childish nonsense on here):
Pros: great pay, benefits, and work/life balance
Cons: little to no room for career growth, tied to nat gas which could be problematic in the next 3-5 years for SWN staying afloat, and too many inefficient processes with lack of willingness to change. You often hear “we’ve always done it that way “ with no middle managers willing to step out for change. Those that have experience elsewhere and come to SWN struggle as a result I’ve often found. Lots of attrition as a result.
I can tell you two things. 1). Layoffs are real and certain here. Our CEO been doing it since 2016 (when he took over). 2). Same guy leaves an odor cloud leaving a restroom. Your call!
Hey guys. I previously had that same thought process as I was “the new girl” and wasn’t sure about coming to SWN. I was given an office so that helped too. The pumpkin spice latte in the Market was a high selling point for me, especially since they serve it year round here. I just felt very comfortable here because it was so much like my sorority in college and I really thought I could be a leader here. I fit right in with the morning breakfast chat group. It is the right fit for me. My Suoervisor says our CEO is really focused on making SWN a best in class company. Not sure what that means yet, but maybe soon.
Good luck in your decision making.
