Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

So much for being 'Fast Tracked'

After being recognized as a 20 year employee in May, I was devastated to be impacted by the LR on July 31. Chuck stated on the July 31 Cisco Beat that all hiring managers were to make it a priority to fill open reqs with impacted employees. Additionally, HR reps continually state impacted employees will be 'Fast Tracked' through the system. It's now 4 weeks in my allotted 6 week search and I have found this not to be true. I have applied to 7 open reqs which I believe I clearly qualify for based on my Cisco experience. The same recruiter is assigned to each req and she is less than responsive. She doesn't reply to my emails or IMs, and often cancels our 1:1s. It's been 12 days since we've spoken. The 'Talent Acquisition Engagement Manager' I've been assigned is merely a middle-man informing the recruiter which reqs I've applied to. To say that I'm frustrated with the process is an understatement. I feel being a 'priority' and 'Fast Tracked' is like having smoke blown up my skirt.

3 years ago I was Fast Tracked out the door after 17 years. did not want look for another gig within Cisco as I was done with the clown show. Looked in today to see comments on this forum and nothing has changed with the show. Sad

I was at 18 years, found new gig, better health insurance, extra 70k a year, but do have to work a bit harder, which means work at all, as architect at Cisco, didnt work but an hour a week.

Fast track exists but it's often heavily influenced by your current management. If you're reporting to a chain rife with nepotism and/or cronyism, and are focused more on results than networking, you will not get an offer to stay. Your past results are meaningless. It's the sad truth. Three years later, I am far happier away from all of it. I do miss many of the good and talented people I worked with, but not the lying, cheating, do-little but powerful individuals in leadership roles. Move on and go make your new happiness. You will be fine!

As ever, it’s all about your network... if you know somebody who actively wants to hire to hire you (I.e. you have been warming them up for a while already and have shown active interest prior) then that HM will make it happen if they want you. I survived an LR several years ago that way. But, instead, if you’re scrambling around trying to a land a job out of nowhere following your impact meeting, with HMs you don’t know, then you’ve got very little chance, no...

Welcome to reality. Getting hit in a LR is the Cisco employment equivalent of a scarlet letter....most hiring mgrs will talk to you, but have no intent of hiring you. All they have to do is drag their feet and your search clock will run out.

It feels good to give reality check. Does not it? To those upset about LR, look outside. It is great to be in this state of mind. You mind is completely off of the unhappiness you were experiencing on day to day basis. You don't need to work on anything that you felt has no future. You have an opportunity to go out there, talk to people, find gaps in skill sets, and upgrade your self continuously. You will start feeling infinitely confident about yourself within no time. You won't even think about Cisco.

Reality Check, some of those LR’d were do to performance and will never be rehired. LRs provide an easy mechanism to get rid of under performers. . Of course most are just in declining functions.

Why are you not applying outside of Cisco? There are tons of good opportunities outside. Things will certainly workout. Believe in your self and not on Cisco.

sorry to say this, but Cisco does not want your services anymore. just move on. apply at other companies. i know change is not pleasant especially after you've been with the same company for 20 yrs.

Sorry for the dose of reality as to what Cisco is now to what you joined years ago. There is simply no loyalty to tenured employees, in fact just the opposite. And the executive re-assurance on the Beat? Well, I think you get the real picture.
