Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Webster verses Raleigh

I wonder how soon the Webster, NY Xerox campus will be sold, in all or in pieces, or abandoned. It seems a lot of workers there do not even work for Xerox, but for HCL or some other company they outsourced jobs to (cleaning, maintenance, landscaping). The jobs in NC are probably not new positions but are probably to replace what is done/remaining in Webster. I don’t blame them, NYS is not a good state for businesses (or people) due to taxes. Probably why the sold Xerox Square and had move HQs to Norwalk years ago.

@10K8yff9-1wbi, can you say more about this: "•Existing Xerox underground hazardous chemicals on site containment areas." Which buildings are affected? I've heard rumors about hazardous chemicals in the ground but never knew if they were only rumors.

Webster campus future:

1) IT folks will be laid off, with a tiny percentage forced to relocate to NC.

2) toner related functions safe until sold off, but HP toner sourcing agreement clouds this some. Seems odd but chance toner plant shuts down. I think unlikely though.

3) empty bldgs marketed to buyers and renters. Market for those options in Rochester is unappealing. Option to bulldoze is more attractive to get off the tax rolls.

4) data center (bldg 300) exit plan means that bldg moves to the sale/rent/bulldoze category.

5) Gil Hatch Center already publicly demonized by Giovanni V, so that’s likely to be vacated also.

6) back office functions such as procurement, accounting, payables not already offshored will be, driving further Webster campus bldg consolidation.

7) if you’ve been around long enough to know the “West Campus”, that is done.

8) a campus will continue to exist but as Xerox sells off assets and operations (read about what Carl Icahn does and how he does it) it will diminish in size.

9) 3D metal printing could use some bldgs if that area is targeted for investment. Seems unlikely given that is Wall St eyewash not an actual business plan.

10) building and grounds deterioration will continue making sale or rental of portions less likely

Not sure they will be easily able to sell the Webster campus too many significant barriers some of which are inflicted by local and state government agencies
•Existing Xerox underground hazardous chemicals on site containment areas
•Most Buildings would need a tremendous amount investment to refurbish and update
•Infrastructure investment to repair parking lots and private roadways.
•HIGH Monroe County & New York State property taxes
•Significantly more expensive to fly in and out of Rochester Airport for staff, customers and sales representatives, in addition to higher airfreight costs
• Nuclear plant within a very close radius
And the list goes on....

New York is VERY "union friendly". North Carolina, not so much.
