Furr's Cafeteria! Haven't seen one of those in ages. They're still around with 21 restaurants apparently. Thanks to Eddie, they're going to outlive Kmart and Sears.

The North Hollywood Kmart is one of the original stores that when it had its grand opening way back in 1972 it had K-Foods supermarket (currently a Big Lots store) as well as the K-Chef fast food burgers & shakes ( also was a Furrs Cafeteria then a men's tuxedo shop, now a vacant store). The North Hollywood Kmart store was a store that you can never find a parking space because that many people was shopping. People always said that if the North Hollywood Kmart Store ever shuts down than that really means Kmart is done. Well I guess its finally time to say Good bye to Kmart for good.

Who the hell cares that Kmart bought sears!!! Like it makes a difference these days. God I am so tired of self righteous Kmart employees getting so excited to come down like a sack of bricks and correct the first person who mistakenly said “sears bought Kmart”
The thing that gets me is that, 100 years ago, Sears WAS Amazon! If they had figured out a way to pivot catalog to Internet in 1995 they would be golden now.

Richmond, Indiana IS closing despite profitability.
My wife worked for Sears in Forida when KMart bought Sears and became Sears Holdings, She retired soon after that, but all the employees predicted that within 15 years, KMart/Sears would go belly up. The remaining employees would get shafted, and Eddie Lampert and his gang would walk away with billions in their pockets. Looks like they were right.
With these closures, this will leave 8 Sears and 5 Kmarts in the state of Maryland.
I think the Sears in Gaithersburg, MD is closing. I noticed that some employees were talking sh– about their job(can I swear on here?), and one of them said “We’re getting kicked out in December, so I don’t care if I quit now, beats being laid off”. It makes sense, since the mall is dying, however, I’m not sure Macy’s would be fit for the last anchor.
Actually, KMart bought Sears and took the Name Sears Holdings for the combined company.

just another example of their claiming they will keep jobs and stores open but the devious aftertone of laying people off and closing stores only lines the executives pockets of money and who cares about the average shopper-they shoot themselves in the foot and they don't care

Don't know why this thread has so many negative votes. Sears layoffs and Kmart layoffs have been going on for a few years now with gusto. Those who are here from the USA Today article may not realize hat that behind every list of store closures over the past few years, there have been associates losing jobs that they'd held for decades. Careers that had once been a source of pride. Loyal associates that put up with way too much because of loyalty earned in the past.
Everyone blames Eddie Lampert and obviously he is to blame but the true devil is Leena Munjal. Eddie is the finance guy. Derivative credit swaps and such. The financial side.
Leena Munjal had the influence over operational policy. Every idea she had was to further grind down the associates. When asked why, she did not care. She was rewarded handsomely for her cruelty toward the associates. She is to blame for the poor performance and destruction of the company. Leena Munjal.

Regarding leased stores thought to be owned, many were quietly sold to the owners of shopping centers that they were attached to over the past year or so. Sometimes the holding company that owned the individual store was just transferred with no property transaction recorded. Terms were little or no rent, just a promise to keep the store open so the shopping center would not look abandoned, or to make sure that tenants in the shopping center did not have the excuse to break their leases (loss of an anchor). The store near me on this list had its A/C fail on the upper level 2 months ago, and did not bother to fix it, just had the workers sweat it out at about 85.
What a shame it is the End of a Age. Amazon did them in. Stay tuned for what the Future Holds . I feel for those who shopped these stores and the employees who served them. May there be a happy outcome for ALL.
