Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Finally decided to start looking

It took me forever to make the decision to start looking for a new job. Kept going back and forth, back and forth on it for a long time. Finally, I took out layoffs out of my considerations. I asked myself, if we still had job security, would I be happy at Verizon?

Sadly, I realized the answer is no - something I would have never expected to be the answer ten or even five years ago.

Other people who can't decide, try this method. Might end up helping you as well.

@1oju -not everyone got the option to take the package. I know several people in my location that checked to see if they were lucky enough to be eligible but were not.

You should have taken the package then. Why leave without something? Volunteer for the next RIF and at least get that package.....

@cak - Wrong. Only poorly run publicly traded companies. And start ups have the most instability of any job out there.

The constant reorgs, layoffs, and bosses is the new norm at publicly traded companies. You'll need to work at a well-funded Silicon Valley startup to escape that culture in 2019.

For me, its not just the layoffs but the constant reorgs, changes in teams and bosses, responsibilities. They say we are on Verizon 2.0 but its more like 20.0 with the constant shuffling and restructuring over the years. The newer aspects of the business continue to make poor decisions like aquiring Yahoo ans AOL. Trying to make hip and cool spinoffs like Verizon Connect and GO90 which is reality are total garbage. And then there are older aspects of the business that act like a total boat anchor and drag everything else down, stuck in their ways that were relevant 10-20 years ago. This place is a disaster that pays well.

Good luck in your search.
