Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Why do we choose to stay if we hate it here?

And I don’t ask this question with sarcasm. The truth is that 90% of us complain and say that this is a bad place to be and a bad place to work, and yet we all chose to stay. People say that finding a job in retail is relatively easy. Why do we stay if we hate working at Sam’s so much?

I stay mainly because of the insurance. My son has juvenile diabetes and I have arthritis. I don't think I can start over some where else. I was part of the audit team and still doing audits for less money.. Just gotta s— it up!

Decent pay. Make enough to live on and enough to support my hobby. Work is to make money not have fun. If it was a fun place you would be paying them to go there. Dislike my comment if u want but it’s true.

Everyone asks me the exact same question you're asking and the answer I would give doesn't differ very much from many of the others. It comes down to either I stay and continue to earn what I do, or leave and have to essentially start all over again from the bottom somewhere else. I have no one else to blame for this but myself, if I'm being realistic about it. I made the choice to come here at a time when there were very few other choices for jobs out there and I chose to stay because I eventually reached that point where all my experience here only held value here and nowhere else, money wise, which remains true to this day. I painted myself into a corner by keeping this job while gaining no other real marketable skills other than maybe forklift experience, which really doesn't equate to anything on the outside. So I did this to myself. I can sit here and be angry with this company all I want and, believe me, I am. But it was my choice to stay. I wasn't being held hostage. The company changed on me in that time and went from valuing us as people, to becoming indifferent toward us and treating us like we're the enemy. As demoralizing and embarrassing as it is being an employee of this company, I'll stick around for the benefits and as long as it takes for my own business to grow and possibly allow me to one day walk away.

I'm 67 yrs old. Don't feel anyone else would hire me for the same money I make here. That's why I stay. I was in my 50's when I got hired. At that time, even with a bachelor's degree, I couldn't find a job that paid above minimum wage. I'll be here until the doors close, I get fired, or I die.

Fear of the new, and most people form some attachments at their jobs. Sad to say, moving is many times the only way you can get a raise

I wish I could. Just so unhappy with the way that they gave a group of people raise. Still don’t do any more work. I work hard every day and still make the same amount of money as I did back in 2008. I’m looking for another job.

The only reason I stayed was for the cheap health insurance. I am single so yeah it saves you money compared to other places but the coverage s—s and deductibles are high so I left sams got out of retail and now have better insurance and my wages were higher but paid about 50 dollars more per month for insurance. Came out a wash with a lot less stress and employees that actually like the management.

I quit after 19 years. I have no regrets
Took 3 weeks off to recharge. So that was my vacation. I found a great job and after 2 weeks there it felt like that's where I belonged. If you keep questioning yourself to stay or go you probably know the answer already. Just go. There are plenty of good paying jobs out there. I went to the highest bidder and they couldn't believe how much work I could get done in one day. Good luck to you.

Because we feel trapped after so many years . . . it is hard to start some place new and lose all of the PTO, benefits, and hourly wage for some of us senior partners.
