Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Are positions that were given a raise recently safe?

I'm assuming they wouldn't bump us up just to turn around and eliminate the position, right?

Assistant managers are in the most immediate danger of elimination with the lead's being forced to assume so much responsibility the clubs really do not need that many salaried managers the company can't afford to pay guaranteed salaries for people who for the most part come in and hide in the office.

There are still changes coming this year and January next year. Most likely half if not all Sam's clubs will close next year. They are planning to expand all Walmart Supercenters grocery section and to add Sam's club bulk food items next year.

I think that it would behoove everyone working for this company to understand one thing: job security no longer exists here. Are you safe for a little while? Maybe. But none of us has any control over the decision making in Bentonville, which is basically to run these stores into the ground. It is my firm belief - and I am confident that I am not alone in this - that those who lead this company couldn't care less about competing with Costco and they're in the process of actively conceding the brick and mortar share of the entire business model to them, while at the same time repositioning themselves to take on Amazon and go electronic with the entire thing. If this works out to be true - and from where I'm sitting, there is nothing to indicate it isn't - All of us working in these clubs are on that timetable. Which means job security for us does not exist. Everyone here has to have their own exit strategy because the day will most certainly come. Mine is starting my own business and hopefully becoming free of being rolled over by the corporate wheel of this or any other company. I would strongly advise everyone else to start planning accordingly as well.

Probably going to close some more clubs like last time they gave raises.
