Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon partnering with Altice

What’s up with that ? There has to be more to that than just using their news stations . Goodbye fios news and probably goodbye to some other things

Hans should not have to deal with this.... Lowell should have crushed the union when he had the chance.

Just the foreshadowing of Altice purchasing Wireline..Verizon wants to sell it off. The door is now open. Why would the company approach the Union for a 5yr contract extension?? They work 5-10 yrs in advance. No one will purchase a company (Wireline) with an impending strike. Extension ✔️
Reduce Management ✔️ The Union is next.

what makes you think this deal is anything more than a programming carriage deal that benefits both sides?

One Altice owned channel on FIOS does not mean anything. There are 50 AT&T owned channels (HBO, Cinemax, TBS, TNT, HLN, CNN) on FIOS now but yet no sign of those two making any additional deals.

OP has no clue

I agree with @1iay. Breaking up wireline would be very, very complicated due not to copper in the ground or even fiber in the ground but due to the central office equipment structure and all the various aspects this equipment serves.

On top of that, who the hell would want to buy all the debt that would be shuffled off onto the sell? That debt is mostly wireless driven debt and no one buying aspects of wireline would even begin to want that debt. Any sale would involve long term leasing arrangements for access to the C.O. equipment.

IMO the sale of Wireline would be complicated because it would require several partners. Century Link is focusing on Enterprise, but it doesn't have the cash to buy Verizon Enterprise. Century Link would need to partner with a large venture capitalist which would not be interested unless the Verizon Enterprise was offered at distress sale price. Altice and Charter might be interested in Verizon FiOS assets, but Verizon would want to keep any potential 5G network components.

This is great news. People love news 12. This will really help in retaining FIOS customers and drawing new ones.

This is not a good thing if you work in an Altice area...Altice wants to be in this business...Verizon doesn't. I'm guessing if Altice hits them with a number ( any number ) Verizon is excepting.

Coming from the sales dept, this is a good thing NYC and N Jersey love their Channel 12....many wouldn’t switch because of it....

Maybe Altice will give me my EISP when I am sold off to them.
