Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I know you don’t know me

I received my last sub payment at the end of July. I haven’t been successful in finding a new job yet. I will be losing my home at the end of the month because I can’t afford to stay there on unemployment and a part-time job. Can you please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I am embarking on unknown territory.

Can you rent the rooms in your house ? You may think that roommates aren’t the greatest but you don’t want your credit to be ruined either so I think having roommates is way better than having bad credit

You and everyone who is in this situation are in my prayers! I have decided to get out of the financial services field with big banks. The industry is imploding. Maybe take your skills, which I’m sure you have a lot of, and move into another field. All business can use people with financial skills. Maybe try to take a course in something you really want to do for the rest of your life. Sometimes the unemployment offices offer free courses. Don’t give up! Remember, this is not your fault, it’s the industry! Good luck to you and all on this site!

I respect the compassion and sincerity of the people posting to this message. There are those of use that had a false confidence and security that if we did a good job, were dedicated, and gave our all it would be reciprocated versus kicked in the a–.
Losing your job, home, and a loss of confidence is devistating. God bless you all..

I'm still at BNY, but my last company shut down after the 2008 crash, and it took me 15 months to find a new position.

I kept applying to everything I could find, and heard nothing back. In month 15, it seemed as if everyone suddenly started hiring again. I had three interviews for different companies scheduled over two days. I took the BNY offer, and have been here ever since.

Don't give up!

Beat wishes to everybody. I was released in 2014 after 20 years of loyal service and all my meets and exceeds. Eventually got my first and last BE and in six month they let me go. First assignment was found pretty easy with the major investment bank for two years. By and large the same picture as in BONY, mismanagement and a lot of redundancy...and massive layoffs .I stopped a search a year ago after hiring manager said to me that she is looking for someone who knows how to babysit offshore resources. Enough is enough at least fo me...All the best to all old BONY folks , it used to be a great company.

Sorry to hear.

I know this sounds easier then it is, but why don't you post your story, on LinkedIn, people will try and help out. Posting here won't help you, might make you feel better, but LinkedIn could lead to something.

Prayers for you. I just started my jobless life couple weeks ago. Sent out a few resumes, no calls. I already felt discourage and hopeless.

I am praying for you right now and will continue to do so. Please believe that you deserve happiness. My sub pay ran out on June 30. I applied to many jobs for months along the way with only one reply for a phone interview which didn’t work out. Then, a job I applied to on July 1 (when I was seriously wondering about my future livelihood) called me back. Everything changed with that call. I now have a job start date that I look upon as a miracle. My new job is not with a traditional bank, so I’m stretching my boundaries a bit. But I couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Visualize what you want and it will come to you.

If BNY acquired your group from another company that still exists, try that other company for a job. You might even get credit for time at that company.

I came to work for BNY that way, and have interviewed for a job at the old company. It would be for less salary than I get now, because they only have certain jobs within commuting distance. But it was a great company, so I am considering it.

In my case, I could continue my budget, but might reduce 401K contributions for a while.

Good luck with your situation!

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I wish there were something I could do for you. I too was released, and it's been devasting to me. Layoffs should be used as a last resort. It can have so many different effects on so many people. Sadly, since greed reigns supreme at BNY Mellon, senior management only cares about how many zeros are in their bonus or how many yachts they can purchase next year. Good luck to everybody here to all current and former employees sharing information here.

I'm in the same boat, mine ends next month. I saw the writing on the wall back in the spring when I applied to at least 200 jobs with no call backs. I had to sell my house in May and relocate to a more "affordable" part of the state. Luckily my wife has a job that can at least pay our bills. The days of saving seem to be over. My demographics don't seem to match what employers are looking for these days. Over 20 years of experience in the industry seems like a detriment to most employers. Maybe this winter I can shovel driveways for $20 a pop.
