Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Unions and Sam's Club

The company talking points regarding why we don't need a union center around the open door policy. The company claims that we don't need labor unions coming between the associates and management. In other words, the company maintains that it has a functional system in place for an associate to communicate your concerns to your boss, or your boss's boss, or even the level above that should you feel so inclined.

Does anybody really believe that they could voice their concerns to their club manager and take those concerns to a higher level if they were not satisfied with the response or lack thereof? Does anybody believe that their voice would then really be heard? If that truly was the case, we would still have PTC's, adequate staffing for receiving and claims, a functional cash office, a rollback on block scheduling, etc. Why don't we have those things when the average associate knows that they are needed? Because they don't care and they won't listen.

So what was the reason that we don't need a union again?

You will never get a union at Sam’s. They own you. Get used to it.

I was union in the past, and did not enjoy it as it minimized merit over tenure. That being said, a union could be very beneficial to the workers at Sams as it could help workers to overcome some of the mediocre management decisions, and make management responsible for labor allocations

Since most states are "Right To Work" states having a union just creates that imaginary blanket of comfort.

The powers that be would rather permanently close up shop, than allow any of the stores to fall into union hands.

Imagine the day where sams could not eliminate or rename your position because we're in a union. Or they try to make u work a different department which isnt part of your responsibility and you can tell them no. They dont want this taken away from them. Thwy know the day we unionize is the day that all these changes have to stop and their power is taken from them and given to us where it should be. I know union talks are going on at my club and there has been some meetings. I cant wait to see how this plays out. We deserve this. Do not let anyone tell you having a union is a bad thing.

I would like to add something to this post. In my last job, we were in a union. Let me tell u, i have never felt job security like that. I mean it. We got paid for holidays, better raises, it was almost impossible to get fired ( not saying thats necessarily good lol) but it was great. They fought for us. This did not fight for the company. To the perso. In the last union post who said..." I dont need to pay someone to talk for me" that is such the wrong way of looking at it and i can vouch for that 100%. $10 a paycheck was more than worth all the benefits the union gave. Everytime the company tried to do something unfair, all u did was call up that union and they squashed it. And the union people are picked by the union workers. These managers and higher ups try to brain wash people into thinking a union means we cant speak for ourselves. No..a union meams the control is taken away from THEM. Thats what this is about. I dont want to say anything to get this post deleted and i hope no one else does because people need to see this. Higher ups at sams know how to explain unions so that it mames u feel dumb to want one...its only to benefit them. Trust me on this. It would be the best thing to happen to Sams in a very long time.
