Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Good Advice

If it happens — As difficult as it might feel, layoff can be a great blessing. Go with courage and confidence, and explore other career opportunities. I left Oracle a few months back after working there for 15+ years ... even though I was hoping for a layoff so I get severance but it didn't happen. The work culture where I am right now is so vastly different and vibrant, and people are so much nicer and naturally it shows well in their output and revenues.

I always felt that there is an established arrogance, rudeness, and poor behavior from some of the top leaders at Oracle that trickles down all the way to middle managers ... and until that changes at the top, those patterns will continue. I hope Oracle's HR or an external consulting company sincerely works with them on an altered behavior.

Anyhow, leave if you can ... or if you get laid off, use that severance for a break or gain some training, and know that there are plenty of opportunities available for conscious and talented employees.

I also worked 15+yrs for Oracle and just left end of last month, although I knew that I could get laid-off and severance for sure if I could stay several more months.. I still didn't hesitate to resign and take a new opportunity and challenge outside as quick as I could. I didn't want to waste more time in O for nothing (no future and no commitment to my work) but just waiting for the package. Good luck to me and everyone is leaving O. Never too late to make changes.

A couple of years ago, Just shy of my 65th birthday, I got the proverbial axe. Made perfect sense as my group was moving cloudward and my personal ROI was diminishing as I got older. I took the package, gratefully, and called an end to my 42 year IT career. Two years have passed, and I've been awarded two non-IT related patents and started my own business. While I dont make as much money (yet), I am far more satisfied with "work". Be confident in yourselves!

Took a package in June. Enjoyed the summer off and got a fantastic job at a real cloud company (AWS) for 3 times the money and a fantastic culture. Customers love us and our business is driven by their success. Get out of the Big O. Free yourself. The toxicity will be left behind and you will feel so much better.

It’s good advice. Hard to hear if you have been in the O bubble. It’s true and you can do it. I’ve been there. Tough times don’t last but tough people do!
