Xerox outsourcing to HCL

Xerox is truly screwed when HCL replaces rebadged Xerox employees with HCL people. I hope HCL will do a better job for Xerox than they have for Boeing. Kind of scary that Boeing (HCL) cannot provide the technical details of the software modifications to FAA enabling them to determine if 737 max is safe to fly. Delays now postpone utilizing 737 Max until December. Hope Boeing had delay penalty clauses in their contracts with HCL. I would imagine HCL probably had their best engineers on this. Can you imagine the caliber of the HCL engineers engaged on Xerox projects?

The biggest casualty of sending work to these off shore companies has been "quality" which has taken a nosedive.

It is very typical of these off shore vendors that when you pinpoint their deficiencies, they get defensive and start using words like "loser", etc. They think that Xerox cannot run its business without their help when the truth of the matter is that Xerox can run its business much better with the Xerox employees. Since off shoring tech business to these off shore companies, the quality of service has only gone down.

AnoyAnoy, my previous response to you was not posted. You might want to share your take on this with the Wall Street Journal as they and several other reliable agencies have noted HCLs involvement in multiple reports. I can surmise from your response that not only are you not well informed, but also not grasped how to conduct yourself in a professional manner.

My experience with offshore support at Xerox is that the turnover is so high that you rarely have an analyst in a position long enough to learn the specifics and be value add to anyone. You are constantly dealing with brand new people. So if they can stick to a script/checklist you can get by but they won't have enough knowledge to be of much help if the have to go off the checklist.

AnoyAnoy, are you stating HCL was not involved based on your direct involvement with the 737Max and are an employee of Boeing or FAA or assuming?

When was the last time an off shore company actually did even a half decent job for Xerox? TCS, Wipro, HCL, BirlaSoft, etc., were all awful in their support. Their on-site staff was trained by the US based Xerox employees and only those who were trained here were decent because of the quality of their training. Once they were replaced by their off-shore bodies in the name of "saving money", the tech support became horrible. The CTO was trying to lecture Xerox employees in his last communications meeting where he was implying how to shape their careers somewhere else. There will be a minimum IT workforce left here at Webster as part of the new technology road map. People were told North Carolina had good schools, etc., when the fact is that RIT, UofR, Genesseo, Binghamton, etc., are all outstanding schools that can provide young talent and labor. But the management has other plans and the primary goal is to somehow increase the stock price by any means possible (lay offs, cutting benefits, etc.) to the point that it is acceptable to Ichan so that he could dump his shares. How much greed is enough?

Agree- saw that as well. Additionally it was well reported that the trade offs necessary to enable MAX to have the engine clearances without airframe redo were based on greed. An equally relevant issue today behind outsourced capabilities which has proven many times over to suffer from quality issues. But not the only factor.

Outsourcing critical capabilities, governance, and engineering rarely succeeds other than on the cost front. Execs take credit and depart before this reality hits home. Thus the history of Naresh and Steve.

Interesting response from khi - news accounts in June when the second crash occurred did blame outsourcing of engineering on Boeing's design flaws.

yoo loser. HCL was not involved in the 737 Max project. That was designed and implemented by Boeing engineers. These outsourcing firms are involved in their website management, employee record maintenance etc. These JavaScript programmers are not allowed anywhere near the actual flight software. Boeing should have hired a CEO who has some technical knowledge rather than someone who can count money.
